Can you rotate items?

I've noticed this question to be asked a lot but the anwser isn't helping. People are saying... click item... then right click to rotate. However it doesn't work on any items.

Not all items can be rotated, but most can. It's only furniture, though. Pick up a chair, for instance. Left-click it in your inventory, or click a blank slot in inventory to pick it up from your house. Once you're holding it over your head, right-click to rotate.

You can't rotate things like scarecrows, furnaces, statues, kegs, the TV... Just cosmetic in-door furniture.

Hmm... Tried and still no luck.. maybe what i'm trying to rotate isn't actually a chair... it's some large blue bear thing

Oh, yeah, not sure about that one. Stuff with a "face" typically has to face forward. You have to see the bear's face, you have to see the TV screen, you have to see your furnace.

And round things might not rotate just because they look the same from all angles. But chairs, rectangle tables, those should rotate at least.

There is a chair with a green cushion that won't rotate (like other chairs will) with right click and needs to be removed with the pickaxe. I thought I made it rotate once, but now I can't seem to make it go. It will only face right.

I wouldn't say most items can rotate. It's most chairs, a couple of tables and carpets, dressers and that's about it afaik.
