Will you lose the hearts of the other people?
I started to play this game some days ago and tried to befriend with some people. And I got a heart with Abigail. You won't lose the hearts, if you're don't give them gifts for some couple of time, will you? I still don't know, and I'm afraid of gifting them something weekly... and well... that could pretty suck, if you're not able to get the right gifts...

So basically, friendship is a score that you can have with other people, each heart represents 250 friendship points, so if you have 1 heart, you have 250 points, 2 hearts is 500, and so on.

Talking to an npc, completing a delivery quest for them, making a certain choice during a "heart-event", or giving them a gift they feel neutral to, like, or love will increase that friendship score, giving you more hearts with the npc.

However, if you don't talk to that npc, for example Abigail, each day that you don't talk to her will subtract 2 friendship points. This means that if you have 2 hearts with her, after 125 days straight of not talking to her will make her go back to 1 heart. Other ways friendship points can be subtracted are giving them a gift they dislike or hate, hitting them with a slingshot, and looking in a trash can if they are close to you (except for Linus, he doesn't mind if you look in the trash).

Once you reach the maximum friendship, which is 10 hearts or 8 hearts with a marriage candidate (or 10 hearts for a girl/boyfriend, or 12 hearts for a spouse), the game no longer deducts that 2 points each day, so you don't need to talk or gift them anymore once you've reached that.

TL;DR you will lose that heart with her if you don't keep talking to her, but if you stop giving her gifts BUT keep talking to her she won't mind. However, once you get her to the maximum friendship you don't need to keep interacting.
