Help for Mac users
I am having trouble with fishing. The touch pad on my MacBook does not respond well. if i tap, the bar behind the fish stays at the bottom; if i hold, the bar goes all the way to the top. I have tried all the tips on this forum to no avail. One tip, however says to remap the button from the mouse to the space bar, but the option to remap fishing is not available. I can only remap movement, opening/closing boxes, etc. I am looking for advice from anyone on a mac regarding how i can make fishing easier. (i do, however, catch a lot of junk)

Well, I do use a Mac, but honestly, I've never tried it with a touch pad. (Indeed, this is more of a touch pad, track pad problem than a Mac specific problem).

I'd suggest using a mouse if that's at all possible. I realize it might not be convienient if you're using a MacBook, but ... it would probably help.

Fishing requires a delicate touch. In the beginning, the green bar is small and the fish tend to be jumpier. Trying going to the lakes (either south of the farm, or up in the mountains (near Robin's house)) and fishing for Carp. Carp are sluggish and often require no adjustment at all.

I have a mac touchpad also. Yes, the exact same useless attempts to fish. It takes repeated, fast paced taps to manuver the green bar. I also have nerve issues so fast-pace games like the fishing and the arcade are things I can't do. Initially, I just accepted that it was a part of the game I couldn't play. Began working on the community center and won the three crab pots. They require bait. Read that upon leveling up fishing, you get bait. Thought I only needed to get the first level-up to get bait--then I could go back to ignoring fishing. Thus I kept fishing and failing with the thought/hope that it would eventually level up, even if I never caught anything. Here's what I learned:

The more I fished and failed, the more likely that the fishing bar worked better the next time. The frequency of "erratic" fish in the bar appeared to be more frequent if I was low on energy, though it has happened when my energy bar was full. By acceepting all those frequent failures, I got more and more "smooth" fish. Last night, I got the achievement for having caught 10 different kinds of fish and had achieved level-1 prior to that.

Now I am concerned that I can't seem to get the ability to make bait. Is it a bug that I got the fishing pots without having gotten bait so now the game won't give me bait? I don't know.

Mostly, I am letting you know your frustration is shared and this is something that can be rewarded after a commitment to wasting your time--sort of like the time-suck spent watering all those plants. Eventually you get something out of it. :)

There are mods out there to work around this. My daughter tried to figure out how to install one for me. She said she couldn't get it to work. Feel free to look into it, you might have better luck/knowledge.

Thnaks so much. I havealso acceptedthat i will fail alot. i got the three pots for finishing the Crab Pot in the town hall. i dont think it had anything to do with fishing ability becasue i totally suck at fishing. i was unaware of the energy level penalty, however. i usually fish at the end of the day when energy is low. i will try fishing first thing in the morning. Thanks for you input, i appreciate the time you put into your answer. Also my sincere sympathies regarding your nerve issues. that must be frustrating.
