I can't get SMAPI (Mod thing) to work... am I doing it right? (solution)
So I decided I wanted to make a new character (because I'm against cheating on my first and main playthrough) just so I can get some Steam / Game achievements that I don't quite want to do with my first playthrough just yet (or can't get, like Joja Member of the Year) but I also don't want to take my precious time getting them either... I was looking up mods, such as C J B Item Spawner[www.nexusmods.com] and did the directions it told me: to install the latest SMAPI version in the Stardew Valley/Mods folder and then run the application (.exe file) associated with my PC (which is windows 10). However, when I run the application it tells me it cannot find Stardew Valley quickly followed by a windows pops up to tell me the program has stopped working. I am not sure what I am supposed to do... or what I didn't do...

I tried to make this as clear and detailed as I could. I hope I didn't miss anything... :steamsad:

I don't know if anyone else has or will have this problem but I understood what I did wrong after watching this youtube video:

In short, what I had read and did was treat SMAPI like it was a mod and had put it into the mod folder instead of the actual mod. When in reality you're supposed to unzip the SMAPI folder and replace its contents with your default stardew valley content then run the StardewValleyAPI.exe application file (after you unzip your mods to the StardewValley/Mod file) and it'd play the game as it's supposed to with the exception of now having those neat little mods.

Don't worry, if you decide you don't want to play with the mods you don't have to! Just exit the application and then open the original StardewValley.exe application file and it won't have those mods anymore and you don't have to uninstall or delete anything!

I have to say, this was a lot easier than I made it out to be.

I can't put C J B together for some reason, steam blocks it out. (Call me naive, but I don't know what that stands for.)

I can't get it to work, I gave up. Lots of new games to play anyhow.

Do you still play the game? Or would like to mod some day?

I had to do what youtube video (in the comments) did. I had to manually find the folders, replace the SMAPI files with stardew files then download the mod itself and add it to the mod folder and then use the (.exe) file and it actually loaded up the game no problem. Better yet, the mods even worked! I was very surprised but impressed!

If it's ever a desire to start playing the game again, I recommend watching the video I linked in the comments. :)

That video is outdated and bad for a guide though. Extract the SMAPI zip file anywhere, like in your My documents\SMAPI\ or something. Run the install.exe in there and you're done. Search google on how to modify Stardew Valley shortcut in Steam so that you'll have achievements ingame and start the game from Steam just so you can see SMAPI works. Close game, add mods in the \Steam\SteamApps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods\ each in their own folders and play.
