1. Upgrade pickaxe and axe first
2. Barn or coop
3. Upgrade hoe and watering can
4. Horse stable
5. Upgrade tools again
6. House upgrade (kitchen)
Keep in mind that checking the weather might influence what you do. For example, if it's raining tomorrow, maybe you'd want to upgrade the watering can instead. Or if you desperately need wood to craft stuff, don't give Clint your axe. If you're trying to amass copper bars for tree tappers or a silo, don't give up your pickaxe. Keep in mind, you can fish to make money while your tools are being upgraded. :P
So you think I should upgrade my pickaxe first cause I like to mine alot
Try to have at least a copper watering can by summer. By winter you want at least a steel pick axe, hoe and axe.
Winter is a good time to do a ♥♥♥♥ load of mining and upgrading. Try getting a gold watering can during winter.
But for first year you want a set a goals to achieve before first winter. At least a copper watering can (I know it's hard to upgrade before winter cus you always need it), steel pick axe, hoe and axe.
A barn and a coop.
And during winter, upgrade as much ♥♥♥♥ as you can. Your house, tools, etc. Cut a bunch of wood, try to clear the mine by the end of winter. Use your hoe in your fields during winter for roots and stuff.
You get all that, and you're looking good for year two.
