If you want to actually use it, though, it's a lot of work.
The hutch itself is for getting slime eggs. A full hutch gives around 60 slime per day, and you need 100 slime to make 1 egg. You can sell any green or blue slime eggs you get after that, but you should hold onto the red and purple ones.
Build two separate pens outside. One for your reds, one for your purples. If you have 3 boys and 3 girls, they'll make baby slimes like crazy. Once you get about 50, I'd say cut them down to 20. Odds are, the reds will give you a bit of coal, gold ore and diamonds. The purples will give iridium, coal and diamonds.
It's a long game - they certainly don't pay themselves off quick. You can raise them outside the farm, if you care enough. You can put a pen in the quarry, for example. Overall, slime ranching is NOT worth it. It's a lot of time and effort for very little return.
I did a combat/mining focused playthrough where I had 6 slime hutches. They were a steady 6k profit per day. Which you can easily get from any animal, such as cows or sheep.
Oh, really? Where do you get the void chickens from? Or is it at a certain level? I have a Deluxe (?) (The ones with auto feeders and rabbits) coop and haven't seen a way of purchasing the voids.
Sadly that doesn't work on the coop and you still have to pet the animals to keep them happy but it saves a lot of time.

Another automation (though that might be a while since you need to complete the community center - or joja warehouse if you're soulless) is the junimo hut, you can place it and the junimo will collect your crops for you. The range of it is pretty great, I have 2 on my farm and have been planning to get a 3rd soon. All I have to do is get the multiple harvest crops and every few days go pick up my profit at night since they take a whole day to harvest a whole field.
P.S. You don't just get the junimo hut after completing the community center/joja, you get a quest that eventually leads to the building that lets you buy it when you enter the railroad after completing the community center.
