If i remember correctly, not sure if I'm right, think you use them to make oil

As long as you keep filling your slimes' water area each day, they generate slime balls, make more slimes, and you can occasionally thin out the herd by killing some of them for loot. Other than building it simply so I can complete the crafting thing, though, I don't usually bother with it.

Slime eggs sell for 1,000-4,000 gold, depending on the kind you sell. I only know two prices, green being 1,000 and purple being 4,000. If you could somehow get a large amount of slime, you could make some good money off of it if you're in the early game. I've modded my game so I could try it.... Have yet to try it, however, I believe it could be good money if you wanted to work harder than you really have to.

You can raise purple slimes, which give iridium when killed. They're also like farm animals that don't have to be petted, only watered; you can turn their slime balls into eggs for profit.

Building it allows you to get slime eggs as monster drops, which will make a nice profit over time. You can immediately destroy the building after, if you want. I did just that on my current playthrough.

If you want to actually use it, though, it's a lot of work.

The hutch itself is for getting slime eggs. A full hutch gives around 60 slime per day, and you need 100 slime to make 1 egg. You can sell any green or blue slime eggs you get after that, but you should hold onto the red and purple ones.

Build two separate pens outside. One for your reds, one for your purples. If you have 3 boys and 3 girls, they'll make baby slimes like crazy. Once you get about 50, I'd say cut them down to 20. Odds are, the reds will give you a bit of coal, gold ore and diamonds. The purples will give iridium, coal and diamonds.

It's a long game - they certainly don't pay themselves off quick. You can raise them outside the farm, if you care enough. You can put a pen in the quarry, for example. Overall, slime ranching is NOT worth it. It's a lot of time and effort for very little return.

I did a combat/mining focused playthrough where I had 6 slime hutches. They were a steady 6k profit per day. Which you can easily get from any animal, such as cows or sheep.

I'd never made a slime hutch until this playthrough. I never saw the use for it. Honestly still don't see the use for it but I'm finding I kind of like the little guys. Occasionally I try to influence the colors they're breeding just for fun, but I don't put much effort into slime breeding overall.

It's also what you need to make the void mayonaise, isn't it?

Oh, really? Where do you get the void chickens from? Or is it at a certain level? I have a Deluxe (?) (The ones with auto feeders and rabbits) coop and haven't seen a way of purchasing the voids.

buy void egg from someone in the sewer or a random event where a witch turns a normal chicken into a void chicken

ah ok. I've been so busy on the farm I haven't gone to the sewers yet. I wish we could hire help. Shoot, Shane is unemployed; he could use a job. I'm not into marrying an alcoholic in hopes of making him better, but I'd hire him. Or Linus.

You... should be able to automate most of your farmwork... Plant stuff like cranberries instead of wheat, so you don't need to keep replanting. Get auto-collectors for your animals. Crab pots can be neglected if you're feeling rushed. You shouldn't be so busy on the actual farm you don't have time to explore the rest of the game. O_o

Auto collectors? Is that a mod thing or is there something I'm missing? I don't have to keep replanting (except the starfruit in the greenhouse, though I'm trying to slowly move that over to ancient seeds). I'm in spring so I have a lot of strawberries and green beans. I'm getting some done, and I did get to the sewers, finally. Now I just need to ignore all but the bare necessities on a 'lucky' day and get down to level 25 in the darned Skull Cavern...

I'm a bit late to the party but yeah you can get auto-grabbers from Marnie's ranch when you're level 10 farming, they cost 25K and all you have to do is step in an everything you need to pick up from your animals will be there.
Sadly that doesn't work on the coop and you still have to pet the animals to keep them happy but it saves a lot of time.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Another automation (though that might be a while since you need to complete the community center - or joja warehouse if you're soulless) is the junimo hut, you can place it and the junimo will collect your crops for you. The range of it is pretty great, I have 2 on my farm and have been planning to get a 3rd soon. All I have to do is get the multiple harvest crops and every few days go pick up my profit at night since they take a whole day to harvest a whole field.
P.S. You don't just get the junimo hut after completing the community center/joja, you get a quest that eventually leads to the building that lets you buy it when you enter the railroad after completing the community center.
