Making Smaller milks
I've currently got 1 cow, max happiness, and one goat, about 1 and a half hearts. The problem I'm having is I can't figure out how to get normal sized milks anymore. I need the smaller milk for pumpkin pie and some other recipies. I know I can either purchase a new cow or try and breed anotherone but that would be rather resource intensive and I've heard sandy will give them to you sometimes but I'd like a more consistant supply if i can find it.

I've found that keeping about six-eight cows winds up getting me a decent blend of large milk and iridium/gold small milk, even at full heart values. I think certain cows are just predisposed to giving a certain size milk.

Thanks, Ill try doing that when I can get the resources.
What milk/eggs you get is based of two values mood and friendship. Friendship is the hearts that you can view and mood is the line just below it such as: "(animal name) is really happy today"
mood can easyly be lowered by leaving the door open on the barn.

I'm pretty sure the size of your milk isn't gonna restrict you from baking that pumpkin pie. I've made fried eggs with large eggs before in the past I believe with no problems. Should be the same for milk.

Let me just jump on my game for a sec milk my cow and make something that requires milk. I'll edit in the results.

EDIT: Yup. Perfectly fine the size of the milk (or egg) doesn't effect anything. I took all eggs and milk (even the goats, even tho it'll only accept cows) of small size inside my fridge and bag and put them into a separate chest. Leaving only one large brown egg, and one large milk (normal quality) in my bag. I then made an omelet (needing a milk and egg) without any difficulty. In fact when your trying to cook something at the stove that needs milk/eggs beside the milk and eggs it puts (any), meaning large and small/normal sizes are accepted.

EDIT 2: My apologies I thought it worked in all recipes. My bad. You actually do need specifically a small milk in order to make Pumpkin pie. I relogged after realizing I had the ingredients to make an actual Pumpkin Pie to make sure it wasn't just with the omelet that you could do that. I could not make the pie with my large milk.

What I suggest doing just so your cow will perhaps give you a small milk is this: Lower your cows happiness/mood. Don't let it outside to graze. Lock the barn doors keep it inside for one day. (Make sure to do this once the animal is inside!!) If there is food in the barn for it to eat (Cannot produce if it's starved) don't go in there. Don't pet (click on) the animal, don't milk it for that day either. (Since it raises happiness) Hopefully the next day you'll get your small milk. When clicking on the animal the next day (petting it) It should say: <Animal Name> looks fine. Indicating Mood is at least 30 and less than 200. According to the wikia.

It (the wikia) also says: If an animal is below 150 Mood, it still has a chance to have the ability to produce Quality and Large or Deluxe products. However, the lower the mood, the less likely.

(Which is where I got the info for the mood)

I suggest doing a buy/sell system. I tends to sell my two Pigs(when their hearts are full) in the winter and buy new piglets to raise for the next Spring.

Doing the same with your cows should yield you small milks and large milks "seasonally". The Cows will pay for themselves plus you will get both varieties of milk.
