Getting started in Altitude in 2025

Welcome to Altitude! You may be here because you stumbled across this game and don't know much about it or if it still being played. I'm not affiliated with Nimbly Games, the creators of Altitude, but I'm the most active developer in the community and have been working for the past 10 years to add new content and features to the game through my custom PlaneBall.com game servers.

Currently the number of active players is small but games are still happening for several hours each day. Many of us have played this game for a decade because there just isn't anything else like it. I've not been interested in playing much else since discovering Altitude. If you like competitive, team sports-like games you are in the right place.

There are several game modes in Altitude, but the main mode is Plane Ball. Plane Ball is a very fast paced sport where you are trying to get the ball into the other team's goal. Weapons work the same as in any other mode, so strategically shooting down other team's planes is critical to advancing the ball. Originally this was played 6 vs 6 and this is how it is usually played in pub servers.

So, while you may only be able to play at certain hours (although can always practice vs bots), you won't find an experience anything like this anywhere else.

Even with a lack of updates to Altitude's client, a great thing about Altitude is the ability to create custom servers and make new maps with the map editor. So the community is still adding new things to the game regularly.

Games are split between pub servers and ranked. Although there are many pub players who never play ranked, the experience between pubs and ranked is very different. Aside from lack of marketing, this is the main reason Altitude has struggled to get new players. You have to gain experience and reach level 40 to play ranked (keep in mind you'll be jumping into games with players who have thousands of hours played), and it can be hard to get that experience with the limited hours pub servers are active. You can still level up against bots though.

So if you are looking for more competitive games, the more casual pubs may not appeal to you. However you can at least join the Ranked servers to watch until you reach the level 40 requirement allowing you to play ranked. See https://planeball.com/ranked/about/ for ranked server information.

Installed this game a few days ago again... then I thought... "Wow... why didn't I play more of this?"... I remember having a blast and playing it for hours... It really is a good game! =)

Love the game. Played it 12 years ago. Idk what update you did, but servers are still empty.
Somebody email me when there are ball games.

Just coming back to Altitude after many years away and would love to play some footy like the good old days! Thank you for your passion for this game!
