What ever happened to Artyom's stepdad?
This poor guy raised Artyom until he was 20 years old. It's probable he taught him to read and write, skills that I imagine are quite rare in the Metro. Then suddenly, in the midst of a crisis, his adopted son disappears forever.

Does Artyom ever let him know he's even alive? Maybe while he's staying in D6 between the first and second game?

Haven't played Exodus yet but I know the games only take some inspiration from the novels. In 2035 he returns 'home' and is reunited with his adoptive father. It plays out quite well and leads into a fairly satisfying end to Artyom's story arc that began in 2033.

In the actual story the female quota wasn't met, so for the video game they had to make up Anna and dump his father for good.
