Enhanced version keeps crashing and is only playable in safe mode
Ok guys, I know there are probably hundreds of threads about this issue by now, but I could not find any definitive info or solution.

So, if I start the game normally, the intro plays. It can not be skipped. Either (mostly) during the intro, or in the menu or seconds after starting to play, the game crashes and I can't even open task manager. There is no report on whats the issue.
If I start it again, it asks me if I want to start in safe mode. I click yes. It then lets me skip the intro for some reason and I can play the game, but in 1280x1024, while it should be 1920x1080.
If I want to change resolution, it will load for about 80 seconds and crashes the game at some point.

So this is the only way to play it for me: Starting, waiting for crash, starting again in safe mode, play in low resolution. It's okay, but far from optimal obviously.

I tried the usual things like run as admin, check integrity of files, installed new nvidia driver, but to no avail.

I've seen so many people have this or similiar issues and I can't believe there is no fix for this or the devs do not adress this. Can anybody give me any information how to resolve this?

Cheers

well... u were smarter than me... I didn't realize you needed a ray tracing card to play enhanced edition, since the older games labeled enhanced had no requirement. So basically I spent an extra 2 bucks for no reason.

Anyways... I'm sure the normal version runs on ur machine.
As for a guess of why it's crashing... idk... running the lasted video drivers? Are your video and cpu temps good?

I did everything now, I even deleted my GPU and reinstalled it, ran every scan, reinstalled every driver. I'm sure its the game software itself thats faulty or something related to DirectX.

SickFarce..
KrankerScherz..

Enhanched has different min max requirements on hardware, RTX on a FHD screen is like 225 Rims on a Trabi.
M2 NVMe ssd ? Whats that ? Either its a NVMe or it is a M2 ssd, and then Gamebreaking 5400 rpm Drive on that RIG ?
..
Enhanched Game need RTX + higher hardware.
But the Drive with 5400 rpm as a Game Drive is a no go, this will break your Game evan if its the old standart version.

Thanks for the reply. I just copied these specs, I actually don't know what these abbreviations mean exactly. So unfortunately I can't answer that.

Also I'm 100% sure my PC meets the requirements. In safe mode after it crashed and with lower resolution, it works flawless, with ray tracing on "Ultra". The game recently suddenly generated a bug report and the crash seems to be related to a thing called nvwgf2umx.dll, so GPU related.

Thing is, I already re-installed everything (GPU + drivers) to no avail. So I will look into this, maybe I'll find something.

"nvwgf2umx.dll"

driver issue, 100%. Reinstall. If it happens again, then re-download your archive it could be corrupted... or roll back, downgrade, and if you're not technical use DDU or something to "clean house" before downgrading or craziness will likely continue.

But look, i'm here to talk you out of it. There's a reason you posted to the wrong forum, you want us to help you. :metrogasmask: don't choke that laptop, let it breathe.

Your 2060 is just one model up from the lowest, of the lowest, of RTX GPUs, and a mobile GPU at that. Why are you putting yourself through this? Can't get it to even play and get forced to re-watch the intro again since you can't hold skip it til it fully plays (I think)...

Even if you DO get it stable, it can run marginally, maybe, on Enhanced Edition, again remember we're talking about a laptop GPU already 1/3rd weaker than their desktop counterparts... go google 2060 desktop users experiences on RT and Ultra. Then come back.

See? But on this version it can scream along effortlessly, and you're going to miss... what, exactly? A clearer reflection you couldn't stop and enjoy anyway because a pack of watchers wanted to eat you? Or that your girlcrush Giul has some SSS on her skin? Have you even compared screenshots to see what you'll gain?

Even if you're willing to put up with 20 fps on RT in busy fights, and trying to reach Ultra... I say "trying" because that 6GB VRAM is going to be an issue I bet going up too far in texture resolution on Enhanced... that it loads for a minute than bombs, could easily be over-allocation hitting this and giving up, you should monitor VRAM use during the startup, and disable or close everything that has hwacceleration enabled, your browser, the Steam client UI, etc. (most Enhanced Edition players end up playing on MEDIUM on 2060s, by the way, defeating the purpose.)

You can do what you want, of course. There's no end to human suffering in this world, but the ones that do it to themselves... that will always confuse me.

I have the same issue with him. My laptop's GPU is 4060 and CPU is i9. I believe I reached the requirement. So think your answer is unsuitable for his issue.

This is the first metro game to be given the enhanced tag, do you mean the redux games?

Ok, if somebody still cares... it was apparantly a RAM issue. I only had 8GB. I installed two new RAM sticks (2x8 and overall better quality) and now it works perfectly fine 🙄
Thanks for your replies.
