Metro Exodus: My Major Gripes With This Entry
1.Miller is an idiot.

Seriously, you knew all this time there was life topside yet didnt bother to let your only stepson know he risked his life TWICE, just so you can complain about him later to "build character".

***SPOILERS***

Miler should have known that the Urals is a trap. COME ON. That entire scene with the radio screams red flag, only a complete and utter moron would go to the bunker, yet Miller is supposedly a seasoned vet, somehow fabricating some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story about "occupation" forces. At, WHAT point, is this alluded to whatsoever? My god.

2.Forced love interest

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, i knew the MOMENT Anna gave a crap about artyom she would die in the game at some point or get hurt. Like holy crap the writers were not subtle about this at all. Anna was a total ♥♥♥♥♥ to you in last light, but all of the sudden she loves you and your married? ♥♥♥♥ off game....

3.♥♥♥♥♥♥ foreshadowing

It doesn't take a genius to figure out where the story is going, the foreshadowing is so incredibly obvious you might as well be waving a giant (IM GOING TO DIE) flag. Seriously the writing for the story is total garbage, the only saving grace is the small dialog choices that are player based on your actions.

4.Morality system.

Go ♥♥♥♥ yourself game. Seriously, They dont even explain the morality system AT ALL. I get it, you kill people, bad ♥♥♥♥ happends, you save good people, good things happen. But ya know what? its hard to play a game with multiple choices, when you dont even inform the player on how it will impact the story later.

Example: Alyosha Gets shot. You need to LTL hanza in the train depot to avoid alyosha getting shot. HOW, ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THIS? its so utterly obscure and not even explained to the player....like this mechanic is so dumb its painful. Mission critical NPCS can DIE, if you dont do these incredibly specific things to save them in each level. Like, you wouldnt know about either way unless the game tells you "hey you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up".

5.Weapon Jams

If your cleaning your rifle regularly, and keeping it in good condition, this isnt too hard to understand or figure out. But if you LITERALLY just got done cleaning a weapon at a workbench and you walk outside for 30 minutes, all of the sudden the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ jams 3 times in a row and its not even dirty. THIS ♥♥♥♥ NEEDS TO STOP. i like certain realistic elements but god ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ damn dude..this is so annoying im tired of video games doing this ♥♥♥♥. STOP........

6.Story makes no sense

Ok, lemme get this straight, in the first game artyom attempts to save the station, he succeeds even though the council turn their backs on him. He finds the legendary D6. and launches the missles against the dark ones, realizing its far too late and he has killed them.

Then the second game, we are CONSTANTLY ♥♥♥♥ on by anna, and leaves us to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ die a FOURTH time, let along fifth at this point. We rescue her dumbass and meet up with pavel, pavel betrays us and then we decide based on our (morality) to let him live or die.

We canoncially reveal Korbuts plans to gas Metro using containers found in D6, and save Metro......AGAIN.

Now, anna is no longer a ♥♥♥♥♥, Miller lost his legs and is even MORE of an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ now, despite us marrying his daughter and literally being his son. Miller which, makes no sense as of now, hides the signals from artyom, yet allows him to risk his life. MULTIPLE times even knowing the truth.

They use the train to block and jam signals around the world, for (WHAT REASON?) if we are occupied, whats the point of the jammers? also its revealed there is NO occupation later, which renders the lie before null and void. which makes NO SENSE AT ALL.

We take stupid train to scenic locations, and FINALLY arrive at dead city, which is the most linear part of the game....LIKE, building up to ALL these areas, the one area i WANTED to explore without holding my hand, is the most linear level in the game. COME ON......

FINAL:

I love metro but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the story is so badly written here. Ending sucked. (Yes i have gotten both endings) Just seems like the story went completely down the toilet with retcons, dumb character arcs and really obvious plot points that couldnt be more in your face then waving a giant sign saying: "Im with Stupid".

To clear up some of the parts you may have missed:

Some overarching elements: the country (particularly Moscow) is "playing dead" because there is a fear that occupation forces will destroy them entirely. This is logical for the military leaders of the Metro. This is the reason for the radio jammers, so enemies cannot pick up signs of life, and the reason why they have tried to ensure that the people stay within the confines of the Metro, where they can be controlled. The occupation is however a lie, it was all an exercise to control the population.

Miller hid the facts from everyone because he was being controlled by those above him - a very militaristic man, he follows orders, because he believes that it is for the good of the whole Metro and its people - because this is what he has been told. Similarly as someone who believes in rank, he believed that the Yamantau Bunker housed the remaining government, who he would default to - he had no knowledge of what happened there and what it had become.

Miller is cruel to Artyom because he is getting too close to exposing the truth, a truth which he believes is too dangerous to be exposed. He lost his legs in the battle for D6 in Last Light.

Anna and Artyom begin their relationship in Last Light, so it is not forced for them to be together in Exodus - she is still a confident sniper, trained by her father, but she warmed to Artyom throughout the previous game, she is also married to Artyom in the book.

Hope this helps a little!

I didnt expect a actual dev to respond to this salty rant, i appreciate you responding and taking the time to do that. Thank you. I apoligise if this comes off as harsh, impulsive and rather spiteful because it had been after over 50+ hrs of grinding and i felt like venting. I still love the series and i thank you guys for making the game, sorry if i acted a bit childish.:steamsalty:
