Duke Dies in Volga, no matter what I do.
Hello.

So i am having this issue where Duke keeps dying at the end of Volga. I make all the right decisions.

Sneak out of the Church without killing or knocking out cult members.
Save the cult member in the cage. Where u find the guitar.
Save the 3 cult members in the cage. One gives u a key for the room with the NV glasses.
Don't harass cult members in the open world.
Sneak onto the tug boat. Again without killing or knocking anyone out.
Get to the father on the bridge without killing or knocking out cult members.

Duke keeps dying. I don't know WTF is going on.

I only kill bandits and mutants. I tried with and without killing the big fish too.
Is this some kinda bug?

Did you get spotted at all? Maybe that's the trigger.

I stealth killed all of them (making sure to quick load if spotted) and got the good outcome.

The 3 main criteria are (as you say) -

1.) Sneaking out of the church unnoticed.

2.) Stealing the boat unnoticed.

3.) Get to the cult leader unnoticed.

Aside from the caged fanatic near the guitar that you saved, there are others in the map that you can save - the moral points from these may or may not be required to save Duke.

There are 2 caged fanatics inside a building with several bandits and a dog.. quite close (perhaps just north) to Duke's safehouse. You find a weapon attachment in here I believe. And one of the fanatics gives you a key to elsewhere.

I believe there is one other fanatic in a bandit outpost.. near the transmission tower I think?

--

But I daresay if you at least free those 2 caged fanatics as well as the guitar fella and the 3 main points above, you should be in the clear.

♥♥♥♥ beans, I think this is the kicker. I shot one who I didn't realize had surrendered at the tower. He was actually the first bandit I'd seen to surrender and I had no expectations they would cease combat.

I can confirm that you can do all of the other mandatory "good guy" things and still leave Duke to die.

I killed all surrendering bandits and still got good ending.

No kidding? My run must have just been chuffed as that's the only non-"good" thing I've done.

but was Duke alive at the end of Volga?

Of course, I was speaking for ending of Volga solely. In fact, I killed all surrendering bandits (on top of killing Saul) in Caspian as well, and still got Damir to stay with the crew. Thus I doubt it has any impact on the moral points. Tbh I am really confused with TS' problem, if he did indeed do everything he mentioned and still got the bad ending for Volga something is very off. I remember there was a bug in Last Light when certain data carried through autosave even though the chapter was restarted, perhaps there is a similar case. Doubtful, however.

Yeah, it might be this. TS didn't mention anything about this, but IRC those give moral points as well. Although these quests are so easy and basically right along the path, did they really miss them somehow?

Alright guys. It worked this time. Only thing i did differently was:

Explored the whole map
Interacted with all the locals with my gun holstered and flashlight off

Also, Xenophile asked if i got the teddy and the guitar before. I did. Duke still died.

I honesty don't know. Maybe it was exploring the whole map and the interactions with the locals. The 2 fishermen who talk ♥♥♥♥, the father and son who had the radio and those crazy guys who survived the "electric demon".

İ didnt do anyhing special and duke still alive. İ did play silent and hidden in volga. But I didnt kill catfish. Church side, people were surrender beacause i knocked all of them. When the trader operation, i knocked all again. Dunno how duke is dying.

You might as well let it go, it aint worth the hassle.

From what I've seen and read around Reddit and YouTube, I've come to the impression that it's a percentage chance thing. For instance 75%/25%, but which ending has which chance to happen depends on what you did. Good karma: 75% chance to live, bad karma: 75% chance to die. Could be totally wrong of course, but there's outlying results in either direction.

Something went wrong there. I am certain I must have missed something; like I knocked out the Paladin on the ramp to the getaway boat at the church (twice) and Duke survived and jumped with me both times.

Looking on the wiki, it states that Duke survives if you do not kill many of the cultusts. Don't know if that includes the church on the water at the beginning of Volga, but it makes sense. I actually assumed it depends on how well you stealth through the bridge at the end, I killed 3-4 without being seen and Duke survived.

you could just download a save file from the internet where duke is safe, pretty sure it isn't hard to find
