And spending 51 hours in the game because you're struggling for ammo and resources doesn't make it more fun either (it can but to a point). Exploring every nook and cranny also offers little to offer. All the points on the map worth exploring are pointed out to you. With a few places to explore if you feel like it, but at most you'll find a note or a weapon. Most of the empty space is unfortunately that. Unless there's hidden bosses somewhere or something. The game is designed to have you go past each point of interest too (like the teddy). So once you know how it's laid out you can go through the story while seeing all the side stuff at the same time. I let this game get away with that design because it's never meant to be fully open world.
I went into a few reasons why the game "feels short" in my thread here. https://steamcommunity.com/app/412020/discussions/0/1798529872645829679/
Basically the story itself is pointed out as "You got all this stuff to do, but here's OTHER stuff instead. Which means you never get to go back to the OLD stuff and now it's the end of the game".
Exodus is actually no more or less short then pat Metro games, but it certainty "crams more in" which results in feeling like there's not enough has been done in other places. For example, we never go back go factions and infighitng like in past metro games (or indeed at the start of THIS game).
But even 20 hours aren't this bad. This is minimum the triple of time you need for any other generic singleplayer.
I was on ranger or the one prior to the max since the no hud thing for buttons sounded annoying I did disable crosshair etc though.
