Visuals look washed out
Im having a problem where the game seems washed out or overly bright especially in dark areas. I thought it was an issue with my monitor or brightness settings at first but its seems to go away for a moment during the gas mask animation (as well as a few other random non-repeatable moments) seems to just pop back into being washed out the moment the animation is over.

In game gamma levels are at their lowest. doesn't stop at any level including max.
I have tried new drivers, checking game files and screen settings. as well as reverting FOV changes

Holy crap. You have EXACTLY my problem. I also momentarily get normal colors when lightning happens for a second. It is driving me crazy. I gave up and thought that that is how the game is supposed to look. I don't understand it. I just can't bring the gamma down to a level that will make the left most picture disappear.

I've seen it come and go mid game for no reason, not sure of the cause. Did you report the issue?

Didn't report it, but it never goes away for me. I thought it was just me. This is the first post that I found that has exactly my problem. I was about to make the same post with pictures just a moment after I take the mask, and how it normally looks. Lo and behold and there is the same exact post her.

Yea that Grey shadow problem happens for me too anytime I am in an outside location at night or in a cave

Guys the solution in the other thread worked for me. In Nvidia overlay, Alt-F3, and add Contrast/Bightness filter. It worked right away.

that requires geforce experience though, I refuse to install that part of the drivers

Why?

Well, there are some reshade presets on nexus. Maybe it could fix the problem?

Nope won't use those either, in my experience while reshade does help with sharpness and clarity, they also makes games more unstable and CTD

2033 and Last Light didn't have this problem though the blacks were really sharp both ways, with or without mask, Exodus has a problem with gamma at night when outside or inside caves without a mask, it needs to be fixed

Play in DX12 mode, it fixed the problem for me. You'll also need to disable any overlays including Nvidia Ansel or else DX12 mode causes the game to randomly crash.

I can confirm this fixed mine to exactly my liking.

Same. Though I had some weird issues tonight in Caspian where I would look away from the moon and the fog/haze from it would dissipate across my screen. Hard fading the screen from a washed moonlit night sky to a dark night sky. Similar to the described issue above.

It did the same during the daytime where looking away from the sun would cause the sandy fog effect to fade out. Only lasted a few seconds.

If I have GFE enabled I would have captured it, but not since DLSS works, I no longer use GFE and stick to DX12. Still some crashes, not too much.
