how to turn in side quests

I found the guitar and the teddy bear in the first area, but I don't have a prompt to return the items to their respective clients. Is this an automatic thing as I progress the story or bug?

You can give them those item as the story progress. First they will ask you to seek those items. Than when you finish some story mission, you can give them those items.

I picked up the guitar before I got the quest (I just wanted to swipe the strings when I saw it, like in previous games, suddenly he picks it up and puts it away). I hope this doesn't conflict with the quest in any way

I brought the teddy bear back to the girl and appraoched her with it but could not give it to her.
