FPS Drops = Stuttering

Hello guys.

I'm experiencing stutters on open areas / when coming to new location. The funny part is that i usually have 120 FPS, BUT randomly (especially on open areas when quickly turn my mouse to the right/left ) my FPS drops to 100/105 and i'm getting stutters, it's really annoying.

PC:
OS: Windows 10 Pro ver. 1607 build 14393.0
CPU - i7-4790K (Stock)
GPU - MSI 1080 Ti (Stock) Driver ver. 418.91
RAM - 16 GB DDR3 1600Mhz
PSU - Chieftec 750W
Game is installed on SATA SSD.

Game settings:
Preset - Ultra
Vsync - Disabled ( Enabled "Fast" via Nvidia Control Panel )
Blur - Disabled
DX - 11 ( I don't why, but i can't enable DX12 :/ )
Hairworks - Enabled
Physx - Enabled
Tesselation - Disabled

Go into this pc/local disk C/users/YOUR USER/saved games/metro exodus/YOUR ID/ and open your user.cfg file.

Copy your current user file into another folder as a backup. Then replace everything in your user file with this. Also you can disable fur in the in game settings. Mainly the game lags when the bear comes around because it has tons of fur.

After much testing, these were the best visual and performance settings I found. Oh and be sure to change the screen resolution to your own in the text. Also the default Field of view is 60 and I have it changed to 70 via "r_base_fov 70."

I have an i7-6770k, 960 gtx, and 16 gigs of ram.

I would make this as a spoiler balloon but I do not know the code for it.

I know this post has been here a while but I did manage to mitigate/stop my graphical stuttering problem.

My rig:

Designare Board
WIN 10 Pro
AMD Threadripper 2950X
48 GB Corsair 3000 Mhz
GTX 1080 TI & 1060 6gb
1 TB Samsung M.2. PCIe

I downloaded MSI Afterburner which comes with a program called RivaTuner Statistics Server. I added the MetroExodus.exe to a profile in it and limited the framerate to 60.

Before doing that I could not run the game at all without stuttering regardless of DX version or settings. Now I am running it on DX12 Ultra all settings enabled and I believe it stuttered once in 3 hours and I have had no freezes or crashes.

I really hope this helps someone as I was looking for a band aid for this issue for a long time. Though I do recall with the drivers released by Nvidia right after release of this game you only had to disable tessellation and it did not stutter at all.

I applied the Nvidia control panel options that were written here. It helped me by increasing FPS but I still had huge FPS drops for half seconds constantly as if it was part of the game. As it turned out, for me, it was the advanced Physx. With DX12 ON and physx off, the drops stopped. I played the game until end of Caspian desert with physx ON and now I can't tell the difference with OFF. I hope I managed to convince some of you.

I guess it's because game's engine is 10 years old and has a lot of issues including performance.

Nope. It's been a year, sinse then i've changed almost all of my PC parts except GPU. I was playing in Sam's Story recently on DX12 afaik and i still had stutters on some locations, even tho my PC is way better than it was a year ago. This game has some serious issues with performance.

what fixed 90 % of my stutters was to disable intelligence stand by memory cleaner from when i used to run the mem cleaner with 16 gb ram for battlefield games ( stand by mem filling up )

i get the normal once stutter in a new erea then im good

Yeah keep listening to the devs friends that keep coming here with their pretend fixes that don't work... the only thing that is going to fix this is a total remake ... the game is broken and always will be broken - if you're ok with that then buy it and make them richer and happier, and you poorer and sadder.

I had the same issue. Even had stuttering sound and image in the intro movie.
I installed the latest nvidia driver and after that still had the problem.Then i tried this and my problem was solved.

Open Nvidia Control Panel
Click on Manage 3D settings > Program Settings > and locate metroexodus.exe from the drop down menu. Add if not there in the list
Set Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames to 1
Set Monitor Technology to G-Snyc (if available)
Enable Threaded Optimization
Set Power Management to Prefer Maximum Performance
Keep Texture Filtering at Performance
Set Multi-Display/Mixed GPU Acceleration to Single display performance mode.

Start Metro Exodus
Press Alt+Tab to minimize the game
Open Task Manager
Click on Details tab
Search for the process metroexodus.exe or MetroE.exe from the list.
Right click on the process and Set Priority to High
