and no, i don't think it has anything to do with my keyboard. if i recall, this problem happened a lot with the other metro games for me as well (original & redux). and at that time i was using a different keyboard.

I have the exact same problem and i've been trying to fix it since launch to no avail. Only option left is to contact support and hope they do something about it sometime this year :(

I have the same issue. Random keys are getting pressed. The gasmask unequiping itself. Inventory button getting triggered. The flashlight charger randomly opens up etc. Tried two different keyboards and the same problem. I woudn't mind to have a crash or two instead of this issue. At least then I would be play the game.

Just letting you guys know i fixed my "bug"
Apparently i had the windows setting ticked that locks shift and cntrl when you hold them or double press them, somehow this caused the bug for me.

In which section/settings page did you managed to find that settings ? And what was the name of that setting ?

I'm sorry but I don't remember which setting it was exactly, I think It was definitely one of the settings under "Ease of Access Center" -> "Make the keyboard easier to use" or one of the subsections under "Make the keyboard easier to use

Yes it is Ease of Access / Keyboard / Language & Keyboard Settings / Spelling, Typing & Keyboard Settings / Advanced Keyboard Settings / Input Language Hotkeys / Advanced Key Settings (it's like a maze in there)

If you have an AMD card disable AMD In-Game Overlay. I started getting this issue when i upgraded to a 6900xt.

Bruh i just started playing and the moment i got off the train(when we hit the roadblock) it just started acting weird. Like i have the WASD options for light,mask,watch and then arrow keys for inventory i guess and then randomly it opens up the C menu to select throwable and i cant even move my mouse to select the throwable.

same for me. just asking myself if I need a refund or if there is any real help for this bug. searching the net (reddit, youtube) brought no viable solutions. Just reinstalling. Like the one above me explained.
Bug shows as that:
scenario 1: sometimes whenever you do something I can no longer use any interaction or gear key. Instead actions work without hitting a corresponding key. means: I want to walk sideways, does not work - instead puts off gask mask and asks me with a pop up to "hold G for gask mask". ok then, however pressing/holding G does not work anymore. moving does only work in back/forth, no sideways. using other keys does not work. Shooting: still possible. It then displays a sort of console like HUD in the meantime with two steering options on right and left lower side of the screen. The left one shows equipment. however I cannot select anything with mouse or keys. In this case: totally stuck. Reloading is only way to exit this mess.
Scenario 2: I accidentally or intentionally use either the TAB key (for selection menu of secondary weapons) or throw one of my secondaries. Effect: item is thrown but I can no longer move sideways. I can no longer use any movement except back and forth or action key, "E" does no longer work, "G" for mask, etc. neither. Shooting still works. Whenever I press the TAB / C key for trying to exit this buggy mess it quits the menu. But unfortunately no hope exiting the stuck in selection menu because any movement (even walking) triggers the selection menu again. After using some amount of keys it finally enters scenario 1 with the double item selection wheels. No chance exiting at this point.
WTF is this mess? Is this a bug from console port? It sure looks like they messed up porting some console-ish selection method for items that does not work properly on PC.

I see that the OP explained "on point", what I experience, too. However, OP's post is rather old and dated Sept 2020. Any means to fix this? How did the OP and other users help it?
