Who can you kill and still get the good ending

Im doing my third or fourth play through right now and something came up that I never thought about, when prepping to steal the boat from the pirates to reach the dam, I normally stealth knock out all the pirates but I heard some cite that the pirates are considered enemy like raiders and that I can stealth kill them instead without losing the good ending.

Is it true I can simply stealth kill from distance all the pirates in the lumber mill and still get the good ending?

If you want the good ending you should try to spare the pirates. There are multiple occasions that level where you earn karma points for sparing them.

It doesn't matter which locals in whatever area you killed. The only important thing to get the good ending is to have at the very least 2 of 3 companions with you when you start in Novosibirsk.

Olga specifically asked you not to kill the Pirates and if you'd listened to the Teacher story you'd know why, Pirates are just Pioneers who broke away from the group. But as Terminator01 points out, all you need is 2 of 3 companions from the three main chapters (Duke, Damir, Alyosha) to be alive on the Aurora when Artyom returns.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and slaughtered the pirates at the lumber mill, first time ever doing that I always stealth knock them out and move on but this time I accidently slept to morning and I couldnt sleep again as the game glitched and reloading didnt work. I still got the good ending without Alyosha being lost so as of now going into Dead City I am at full strength.

Did anyone force you to read the thread? The headline alone should be hint enough that we were talking about how the game ends.
