GTX 980
16g RAM System @ 3000mhtz
4 GB of V-Ram on GTX 980
x99 motherboard
SSD drives
850W power
Only freeze Ive had is in the load up menu first day I got game, not had an issue since.
Personally if that were my system the FIRST thing I would do is enter the BIOS.
Set that PC to run in extreme profile mode for gaming, not eco mode or normal mode, performance mode.
That should not overclock it but will increase voltages etc so your system has the juice when needed.
Is net framework up to date ?
It can effect games SP or MP.
The other thing you can do to check to see specifically if the PC has an issue is, when it crashes next, go to the START button, bottom left of screen, in search bar type ' Windows Event Log' and take a look at the PRECISE time that your game crashed and if the PC is at fault it should have a reason, for example if its a lack of voltage it might say something like 'power error 604 or something to that effect, but it will help track the problem if its PC related and not purely a code bug.
Good luck.
I dunno about OP, but I did most of that already, Only thing I left on was the once in a while defender scan which should be on no matter what.
Its the game engine on this particular game, other games I have played don't stutter near this much, only during gamesaving the stutter will happen in other games which is normal
Any other way I can maybe read the dump file to get some clue?
Maybe try this, it worked well for me
Hey, I had crashes/Freeze issues like that too and struggled to run the game the first times. But I figured out something that fixed it once for all, with my system at least. Maybe you can try it.
I've find two solutions, the first one mostly solved the problem but with some graphical option OFF (like DX12) and later the second one which completly fix the issues i beleive so far. I also could switch on all graphical things without problem then, what is a significant mean :)
Here is the solutions you can try :
1. --Optionnal solution--
IMPORTANT making that will make the game run in a "compatible mod" for win 8 or other version depending on your choice which may disable some graphical function unavaillable on the version until you disable the compatibility in the MetroExodus.exe settings But at least you can maybe play the game decently.
-> Try running the window compatibility tool by right clicking on the MetroExodus.exe located in \Steam\steamapps\common\Metro Exodus folder.
Then in the compattibillity tab, click on the "Launch compatibilit tool" by clicking the button (my system isn't in english so it can be differently labeled in yours) and follow the tool procedure.
=> As results i could now run the game without crashing but I had to turn off some graphical options like DX12 and few other which was ok to me but still a bit frustrating.
2.--Best solution--
After few more researches (for another game crashing the same way), it appeared that the rootcause was with the application DPI parameters (hope the translation is correct) who has "control priority conflict" between Window and the game application, making the game freeeze or crash. Maybe especially with hight resolution and/or hight DPI value.
-> Try to give the DPI control priority to the game instead of window system by right clicking on the MetroExodus.exe located in Steam\steamapps\common\Metro Exodus folder. Then in the compatibility tabs i click on the "Modifying hight DPI parameter" button (again hope i translated it well).
Maybe click on the "modify the parameter for all user button" at the bottom of the page before doing that. Window users stuff are sometimes tricky with administrator/normal user management
In the new settings window enable the option : "Replace Hight DPI scale behavior managed by :". Then select : "Application" option and click "Ok"and again in the main settings window click "Apply" and/or "Ok". That was it.
=> As result the problem is now solved (again on my system) and i could also enable all graphical option without any crash or issue left.
Here's my specs if you want to compare :
Win 10 proffessionnal 64 bits
Intel Cor i7-6800k @3.4GHz
32Gb RAM
NVDIA GeForceGTX1080 Ti (11127 MB VRAM)
The graphic settings are now all on maximum (Exept the RTI stuff, I dont have an RTI card).
i hope it will be usefull, I'm glad if it is. It's the first time i write like that on a forum. Forgive english grammar missstakes, it's not my usual tongue ^^
Wow man thanks! I will try this today after work.. it sure sound like the priority thing might have something to do with it. Thanks a lot for the advice.
Sometime, I don't understand technology.
I'm really glad if it helped you. You're welcome :)
Maybe put a "Sloved" mention on the topic (if there's such thing) so other poeple with same issue may benefit it too.
See you, have a nice day and enjoy
I sure will 👍 Only it can take some time until I can confirm that it's solved, it is pretty rare, and can happen even after I finished half of the game. That's what so frustrating about it.
Besides the freezing the game runs pretty amazing on my rig.
EDIT: @Lokheme, was your issue exactly like mine? I mean a total freeze with the game not responding at all? and than you have to hard reset the PC?
Yes sure, take the necessary time to validate it
Yes, at the beginning it was freezing directly after the intro videos and I couldn't skip them at all. Also, all inputs (keyboard & mouse) were'nt responding anymore with the application. Complete freezing.
Then hard reset or blindly trying to "end process" throught task manager struggling with the keyboard and the alt+tab command. So yes, it look like the same problem to me.
I could once end the process with the task manager and when I tried to restart the game it asked me if I want to run it in "safe mode". I clicked yes and that allow me to pass the intro videos and reach to the menu to tune the graphicals options in a way that after few tries allow me to run it and play but always in safe mode...
Well, then you know the rest of the story, knwowing that now I could finish and really appreciate the game.
now I can 100% confirm that it is not the high dpi settings. i just got another freeze in the middle of the caspian sea level. Smooth gameplay until now.. man I don't know what to do, what is causing this game to freeze on my system??
its not the GPU, or the CPU or anything hardware related, because it happened to me on a completely different PC. so it must be the game or something in windows.
I wouldn't think its the monitor because the sound also stops completely, it's like the whole application is not responding. The image just freeze, no mouse control, no sound..
