12.4% have completed Caspian?
I’m here looking at the acheviement which says:
Complete the Caspian level.
12.4% of players have this acheviement.

That can’t be right, is it? Do most people give up on the game?

Ah. Still kinda low even for the OG that has been out a few years.

Exodus is a beautiful problem child that lost some of the soul of 2033 and Last Light, and Caspian is one of the hardest parts to grind through. It's also particularly glitchy, although I didn't have many issues.

Caspian also clearly exposes some of the worst issues with the hyper AI if you play on Ranger / Ranger Hardcore. A lot of Metro vets like myself probably rolled into Exodus straight on Ranger Hardcore, since we'd beaten the previous two games on RH, and smacked into Exodus's AI problems... and hit the wall in Caspian, where they're really really bad.

True.. after two and a half years you'd expect more people to have gotten halfway through but I guess that's due to a range of factors. Metro games are a niche market series that are story driven horror shooters with stealth elements. That alone would probably limit the market but I think a lot of people bought the game because of the media hype as opposed to them being Metro fans or horror and stealth players and they then found the game not to their liking, that happens to all of us in one way or another. Plus some people don't have the time to play games for more than an hour or two at a time and may have shelved the game when they realised it's not a 6-10 hour game and that it would require a certain ongoing familiarity to play and enjoy. Last, bugs. A quick scroll of the forums is a clear indicator that a lot of people couldn't tame the beast and gave up, hoping it'll be patched in the future (like that'll ever happen). Whether those problems are due to the game itself or the individuals remains to be seen. I think the stats are reasonable, EE's only been out for three months. If a million people with RTX cards also own the game and 120,000 have passed halfway after 3 months then that seems fair to me, all things considered.

Very few people actually finish games, that's always been the case. For comparison only a little over 50% of players have made it past the Cursed Station level of Metro 2033 Redux, while less then 40% have finished the whole thing according to achievement stats. It's even lower for the OG version of 2033. Only 43% of people making it more then 2/3 of the way through Exodus is hardly surprising.

I finished Metro 2033 and Last Light. I was keen on doing the same with Exodus until I was met with the infamous Damir bug in Caspian level which also highlighted the awful save system. At the time I just gave up on the whole experience out of frustration.

What do you feel was lost from the previous versions of Metro? I never played the previous ones since every video I ever saw showed the player being in a tight confined underground area. I'm not claustrophobic, but I prefer to be in the outdoors.

I actually started in Hardcore, but I felt a little underwhelmed by the time I got to Caspian. I restarted Exodus in Ranger Hardcore with minimal hud. Yeah the AI can act a little clueless at times, but damn they can sure be a good shot. I just finished Caspian, too.

Was there a horror element Exodus doesn't have? I don't find it horror like in anyway. Maybe I should pick up one of the previous games and suck up the underground blackness and older graphics lol.

If there was a bug, they must have fixed it in EE or some other patch. I finished Caspian last night with zero trouble.

Games have made people so blase about horror they don't recognise it anymore. Packs of hunting mutants, flying demons, dog size spiders, giant spitting worms, hauntings. I think @Sovereign got it right. A lot of people these days just don't finish their games. I read some stats yesterday after seeing that post and the numbers are pathetic, only about 35-45% of people get to the end of games. I guess a short concentration span and social media can be detrimental. Not really, the average gamer is over 40 these days and between other responsibilities there just isn't time.

Yeah that is pretty sad. I can totally see why someone would rage quit on that. I did not experience that at all. He boosted me right up.

I finished the Caspian level on normal and I didnt encounter any issues.
At this time I am on the next level (I forgot the name; the one with the hydroelectric dam and where Krest's railcar is lost) and I am kinda stuck there (read dying alot). I tried taking out a npc stealthily with E on top of a skywalkway since I try not to kill anyone if I dont have to and the guy fell off the walkway alerting everyone on the ground and now I am facing I dont know 8 or so hostiles but they are hard to see so taking them out is a real pain in the ass. So, I am considering giving up on the game lol. The AI has good aim, and I keep running out of medkits. And yes, I know you can craft them. Kinda though to do so with crossbowbolts and bullets flying around your ears... :P
I also have played 2033 and Last Light with LL being my favourite (imho LL is easier than 2033).

I think the save system is still glitchy. I had to run the game offline. Most people overwrite their save files and probably loose a lot of progress and quit the game. I don't think its coz of difficulty coz you can lower it from the menu. Also the game becomes little bit boring at caspian.
CallMeBooch Aug 12, 2021 @ 6:48pm
i got all the way to the baron's tower on my first playthrough on hard (ive beaten the others on RH but i always do a first run on hard to enjoy the experience thoroughly, then go back through on RH) and my save file corrupted in the elevator. lost all that progress, found every secret using guides to make sure i didnt miss any before i leave an area, but nothing. mattered. huge metro fan though so i picked back up on it instantly and just regrinded letting duke die this time because i had a raging inferno of loathing for any poor soul to piss me off. lol. roughly a year ago, now ive come back to do my RH run through on NG+
