Does this game have many jump scares and how scary it is?
I've been eyeing this game for a while. I don't like horror games and games with a lot of jump scares. What I'm looking for in beatiful and immersive atmosphere with some gun play.
I've watched some reviews and considering buying the game. However the reviews don't really talk about jump scares and horror aspect in too much detail. It's just a Metro game doesn't say much to me as I've never played Metro game. Is it like Fallout 4 withour RPG elements?

You should play Metro 2033 and Last Light first anyways.
There are a few scripted jumpscares, but those are few and far between. Playing stealthy and getting caught on the other hand...

2033 is the scariest, Last Light is less scary and, you guessed it, Exodus is even less scary. These games don't really rely on jump scares, they use the environment and sound design to make things tense. There are jump scares, but they really only happen a couple times per title.

These games are more thriller than horror.

Definitely start with 2033 then Last Light followed by Exodus if you've never played any of them before. Phenomenal series.

I would say that overall they are a less scary than mainline Resident Evil games with 2033 being the most intense. IMO RE2 Remake is scarier than 2033, but ofc YMMV.

I think as said previously it is more thriller than horror. The metro games can set an atmosphere that will give you goosebumps just by giving you the illusion that you are in danger. The games in general have a few different enviroments; 1. safe spots ( stations in previous games ) where you can chill out, maps/areas with human enemies ( more your average shooter ), and map/areas with mutant wildlife ( the more thrilling/horror side ).

As for jump scares. Maybe one or two.

And if you do get it and it is too much, just put on the benny hill song when playing :)

It depends on what YOU define as "jump scare".

YouTube has a few videos of "Metro Exodus jump scares".

That will show you what THEY felt was a jump scare.
I watched them and I didn't feel it was scary at all. But everyone is different.

(Turn OFF the volume to avoid listening to the player fuss after being scared)

Yeah. The first jump scare is when you launch the game and find out that it doesn't work in DX12. And then you can't go back into the options to change it to DX11 because, well, in DX12, it doesn't load the menu.

Oh, but then you happen to have a second PC with Windows 7 so you can play it on that.. and then, out of no where, your mouse control stops working in the midst of a fight. So you die and then it's working again, but then the HUD/interaction menu glitches out and pops up every 2 seconds.

Yeah, great game. Russians know code.

Jumpscares aren't scary, they startle you.
only a few, if you walk over a few enemies.

Me and apparently tons of others according to Google search results. Along with the constant struggle with the controls. My god, I can't believe this game is so glitchy.

Thanks for the answers.
It seems if I want to have a great Metro story experience I should also play other Metro games first.

Startle is exactly what I don't enjoy. Good to know that there aren't many and previous commenters idea to look up jump scares on YT might soften the blow. :)

I found this really funny for some reason.

BOO! This isn't FNAF. There are no jumpscares in eXodus.
Get the game, it's worth it imo. Landscape and atmosphere rich with a solid storyline but it is a horror game so you have to expect some horror.
Monsters and on occasion a creepy atmosphere are a part of the package.
