My diary entries have dissapeared (Volga level)
Hello,

I've used the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command as a suggestion to deal with some Windows bsods (blue screen errors) I've gotten lately, and after I've started up Metro, some strange things have happened:

1. The main menu trail was back in Moscow showing 0 KM
2. The game has changed difficulty from Hardcore to Normal
3. All my diary entries, both notes and postcards are showing as Not Collected.

All my upgrades are still there.

Any ideas?

Sync bug.

First off, BSOD's are typically hardware. If you've checked your drives and they're OK run a RAM check for integrity and test your CPU and GPU temperatures too

Sync, disable game cloud sync here (leave it off):
Right click the game in the steam client, select Properties, select Updates tab, disable sync.
You might find a viable save here:
https://store.steampowered.com/login/?redir=account%2Fremotestorage&redir_ssl=1
If you do, download and copy to %user% 'local save location' here:
C:\Users\%USER%\Saved Games\metro exodus\#######

It sounds like you've run into a quirk of the save system bug where it mixes save data. My suggestion is delete all save files not relevant to your current game (if any exist). Also, delete any saves found here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\#######\412020\remote
If this doesn't work because your saves are already corrupt then I'd suggest deleting your current game saves also and starting again with the sync off and no broken save files to be found.
You're only 10-20 hrs in and you've a long way to go yet
That is all stored in the xbox_net_data entries of your config files: https://steamcommunity.com/app/412020/discussions/0/1798529872642733274/

Thanks for the reply mate.

First off Im not starting the game from 0 again, I'm not doing Volga again as much as I enjoyed it its too large of a level.

I will wait to see if by moving on to the next level, this bug goes away.

If not then Ill just continue on without the diaries seeing as they are just collectibles and don't add nothing to the game besides story.
