dude look, it's one of those things - the people who the compass is broken for, are like WTF is wrong with this P.O.S. thing?! It's pointing nowhere! And the people who don't have the issue, get all superior and go "I don't know what you're talking about, follow the little red arrow indicator, you know, like all arrows work?!" or something equally condescending. :-) It's just the way of things.

Know that for about 5 maybe 10% of people, the stupid eff'ing thing doesn't work, either points 90* off, or at the end level main mission only ever the current one, or something that doesn't make any sense... and for those people it has never worked. So it will probably never work for you, you can try removing it and re-attaching it to your bracer if you want. Hasn't helped anyone else, though. The map one always works, at least.

But hey, look on the bright side, at least you get the advantage of trying out all the other bracer mod items, because most people leave the compass on, it's so convenient they never change it.

edit:

I should point out that there's a difference between the compass glitch and not knowing the compass points to the next step of the mission, not always to the big X with the circle around it on the map... but if you follow it and tada! what do you know, that was where the next step in the mission is, whoops. That's because there's not a lot of documentation or hints/tips. But if you follow it and it leads to a map wall, impassible territory, or doesn't even spin when you turn, that is likely the "compass glitch".

Finally figured it out by watching a walkthrough. I was focussed on the compass in upper left corner. Just look at the small arrow (in my case it is white and not red) and travel to the X on the map. The upper left isnt important at all.

Also the walkthrough showed me someone at the train give Ayrthom a airgun, i never received this. That guy was always blocking the way so i couldnt enter the train.

Also my backpack give me ability to upgrade my weapons. This game is really bad in explaining, like the first Metro. The second was better, more explaining, even things we do know from first is explained there in the beginning of the game.

good about compass. 'that guy' blocking the train is 'the guy' who gives the Tikhar air gun. he doesn't give it until all dialogue with the Colonel is finished before he sends you out to get Krest. i explained about the backpack mate (you didn't listen).

Align the markers to go the way you want to go. The red arrow is your heading, the marker is your objective, turn yourself til they align. That's it.

Blaze, it was a question about the compass, he's since edited it. Draven pops in and made a newb joke but it was taken as being picked on (maybe there's something in another thread?) doesn't make a lot of sense when you read it here, but the rest you can see, it fell apart fast.

OK well compass problem is solved. Sorry about that 12345. If you have other questions start a new thread, we definitely should let this one die.

Compass is useless - it spins all the time, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I use metal detector to find stuff - on endgame I had backpack crammed with 6K instrument parts and chemical stuff
