Can someone explain how the compass works?
Firstly, which of the three compasses on my person am I meant to be paying attention to, as they don't seem to agree with each other. There's the watch, then on my map there's a large one top left, then on the map itself there's also a pointer.

For some reason I don't understand the compass is held so that the yellow line which should be held directly ahead is held at a random angle off centre, making the compass confusing to read.

Can someone explain their method of using the compass(es) in relation to the objective on the map? Thanks!

mate it's a compass, it's not that hard. compasses point NORTH and the pointer on your map points north. if you look at your map for an objective and turn to face the direction you need to go to reach it, and your compass needle (north) is at say 3 o'clock (off your right shoulder for example) then head in the objective direction (WEST) with the compass needle maintained off your right shoulder. it's used to ensure you are maintaining your intended direction.

The compass on the bracer does NOT point North. It points to the current objective. (I didnt pay attention to the other ones)

i didn't mention the bracer because it's not a compass. it's an objective finder.

On your wrist...
Spinning arrow is the direction of your objective. The RED POINT, not the thin end. (^.-)

On the map...
Red triangle is you, pointing in the direction you are facing. As you rotate it rotates.

Left of map...
Big dial compass, red tip arrow is relative direction of objective (repeater of the wrist red arrow).
Example: When the red arrow points to the left, your objective is to the left.

One way to use it...
With the map displayed rotate yourself until the red triangle on the map points at the X objective.
When that happens, the point of the red tip arrow on the big dial will also point straight up.
Put away the map, select wrist, and that arrow will be pointing forward (towards your fingers).
Go that way! (^.^)

Navigation...
The map big dial, its arrow pointing right means your main objective is to the right. Turn right.
Wrist arrow pointing down means your main objective is to the right. Turn right.

To move towards your main objective, keep the wrist arrow pointed at your fingers (left hand).

The yellow mark at the top of the map big dial is just for calculating bearings.
The green mark on the wrist is likewise. Just a reference for those that use bearings.
HINT: Bearings are nice, but not required.

well said. reading this? i didn't realise it might be so confusing for some. game should just have two compasses (map and bracer) with 'mini' objective markers on them i think.

Generally, the compass points you to the story objective. This was in the original Metro games. The lighter flame direction also did the same in redux, cant member with exodus.

'generally'? a compass points NORTH with objective markers as side markers. also? i'd forgotten about the 'lighter flame'. cool. thanks.

"Generally" meaning in the prior Metro titles. Though I cannot remember exactly how is behaves in Exodus, I was thinking it still always still pointed to the Story objective.

Thanks.

I think the confusion stemmed from the fact the bracer compass, when aligned with objective, does NOT point straight ahead, but rather towards your fingertips which are held at an angle, and not straight. This system would only truly make sense if the hand was held straight.

The small "compass" arrowhead points to your objective. The red arrowhead on your map shows your location and orientation.

For me, my confusion is coming from the objective finder/compass on my bracer simply not pointing toward my objective. It's quite odd.
