Should I upgrade GTX 980 Ti for 1440p Metro Exodus Ultra 60 FPS+?

I'm currently gaming on 1440P with a rig that I built almost 5 year ago. Most of my games still run 60 FPS plus, but I'm getting sub 40-50 FPS on Metro Exodus ultra settings and wonder if it's time to upgrade.

i7-4790k
GTX 980 ti
16gb ram

As you can see it's pretty far behind compared to the current generation of hardware, due to work I no longer have had the free time I used to have back when I was 24 and my hardware fell behind.

I was browsing for upgrades and was surprised at how much extra the GTX 1080 ti costed compared to MSRP and also the GTX 2080 ti.

I've been out of the loop for so long, should I just wait for the next generation of GPUs? Money is not an issue, but I really hate paying extra over MSRP, more of a principle than money issue.

TL:DR

Latest GTX Ti cards now or wait for new generation Ti cards?

Thanks, I was thinking of just lowering from Ultra to High for Caspian and Taiga lol.

Do you get fps drops on those maps as well or no? I also get some bad FPS drops on Sam's Story DLC.

im using a 2060rtx and its pretty good. caspian and tiaga are demanding. Sams story runs very well its better optimized i think. I can play max with rtx at 1440 but i do run around 40fps, although its very bearable with gsync. imho though i bet the next gen will be much better image quality wise. I think a stand out bargain at the moment is the 5700xt from amd, if your prepared to go red and cant wait

i would also add that it appears that the steam version of this game isnt working properly 100%. I have the epic version and it works perfectly without issue. I noticed there are some problems here , hopefully they will get sorted out. Its strange as normally the steam version of a game is usually the best.

if you have the steam version disable the cloud saves on steam because the cloud is messing with the game and dont believe the bulls h i t from the epic cnuts
