Taiga - Alchemist Camp Stealth Approach?
I'm trying to sneak up on the alchemist--the guy who whistles constantly--whose camp is located near the early part of the Taiga map.

However, for some reason, no matter which direction I come from, something snaps under my feet as soon as I get reasonably close to him and he registers my presence. And chucking cans, for some equally baffling reason, instantly alerts him to my presence as well (I've actually chucked a can from outside the line where that snapping sound happens, and had it happen regardless).

Is there any way to get into this guy's camp--I want those cocktails he's sitting on--without alerting him before I can knock his a** out cold or plugging an arrow into his brainbucket?

Just after ziplining down from across the river from the first "pirate" camp--when you first see the bear--tthere's a camp site in the tree, with two ziplines of its own, one leading to and one leading away from; both of those ziplines have their other ends near the guy I'm talking about (there's a diary entry in his camp, and it's called the "Alchemist's Log," which I why I called him that).

He’s in the area where you zip line from the church, when you first see the bear fighting wolves.

If you’re trying for the stealth achievement, just ignore the diary and grab it in another play through.

If you’re not, just run up to him and knock him out.

There's something around his camp that triggers a sound--like a branch breaking when its stepped on--which alerts him. It's not a trap though, so it can't be disabled, or a piece of junk that you can step around. Oddly, it only triggers one time.

When it triggers, you're still about a half-dozen or so steps away from him and he damned near instantly whips around to where you are. So he spots you before you can knock him out, even if you close the distance at a full sprint. Which means no stealth achievement for you :steamfacepalm:.

The first guy alone with the wolves that has the pistol? You cannot steal the pistol/get close without him getting disturbed by you stepping on a branch (unavoidable)

there's another places or two with this same thing, avoid them or get spotted

Yep, found those two as well. Realizing that I probably porked the achievement on this playthrough, I've just decide to go ahead and play the damned level. Not going to kill anyone, if I don't absolutely have to--which is kind of fun, actually--but otherwise I'm just going to roll on through and do my thing.
