Is it necessary to have played the previous Metro games?
I apologize if this has been asked before but the game looks good.

Not strictly necessary, but highly recommended. It is a sequel.

Yes 2033 first then last Light.
Some memorable moments were there.

You dont have to but you will want to after you play Exodus.....I loved both games....in my top 10...but thats me...I love single player fpshooters....I was really bummed when Steam lost the game to epic....I wasnt gonna wait a year....I bought it on Epic.......called Freedom of Choice...for all the Epic haters.....Hey....This is the USA....I decide how I am gonna spend my money...well ....after the IRS takes a 1/3 of it......ahahah

Thanks for the information!

You should definitely play them at some point. You don't HAVE to play them first, but their stories will be FAR less impactful due to the twist at the beginning of Exodus.

It would be a poor choice to play this one first. Beside the fact that it's all one story, you can get both 2033 and Last Light for pretty cheap right now. Picking up this as your first Metro title is a terrible way to go. You ruin the story, and pay for the most expensive and newest one first.

I would definetly recommend to play 2033 and Last Light prior to playing Exodus, otherwise you are going to miss out on a lot of references during the story, and you won't have any understanding of who the different characters and factions are, since Exodus doesn't really explain what happend in the previous games in great detail.

Yes, it's necessary, this is the third part of the story
you need to know tha other first two parts

Not really, because the game undermines the whole story of the previous 2 games in the opening half 30 minutes. It's probably better if you at it fresh, imo.

In the previous game, you're really under the impression you're the last people on earth and living on the surface is impossible. That turns out to be a lie in the opening part of this game and humanity is actually doing pretty okay (albeit most people in power are crazy psychopaths, the species is ok)..

I never played the other games, I tryed but didn't enjoy them from the start. This game I went into with low expectations and it turned out that I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So no, you don't have to play the other games to enjoy this but I would advise giving them a go anyway. There are references to the previous games that I ended up looking up but it didn't ruin Metro Exodus in the slightest for Me.

Not sure how it undermines everything the main character has done. Plus he used to live on the service plus it's not like the entire world is in radiation.

Do you actually know which parts of the world are affected? That's the only thing I'm really unsure about.

I would imagine locations that weren't hit by warheads. I mean the Caspian sea, and the summer level weren't hit by any.
