Crash/Hang DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION

Right at the start of the game..Explore a little, open door, get attacked by dog things, Dudes come to save me, one says Whoa! It's Artyom and PC locks up, few mins later, BSOD with DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION error.

Windows 10 x64, everything up to date, way above min specs.

Have tried the most common fixes recommended from some googling for this error to no avail, also verified game files. Any ideas anyone?

Spec? Did you overclock your CPU? If so, that means your CPU may not like to run at higher clock speed due to silicon lottery.

Is your CPU overclocked? That's error usually results from too low voltage.

Nope. Oddly most results I saw related it to a storage driver issue, nothing I read referred to CPU voltage.

If you are using DX12, try DX11...there appears to be issues with Win 10 and DX12 with quite a few games

Well then you may need to update SATA AHCI controller via device manager.

I tried the SATA controller fix but it didn't help, however switching to DX 11 as suggested by Ineada above has allowed me to get past where it was crashing so fingers crossed. Also, 10 FPS more on Extreme!
