Van bug in Caspian?
I think I managed to miss out on the van in Caspian... I wandered past the first town without going into it and suddenly my main mission marker changed to further up north. Some guy with a D name called and said something about losing me for a bit and he was glad I resurfaced. Later I looped back into the town, found the van, and explored the outpost building but no luck. I watched a video and saw a scripted storm is supposed to happen and you get ambushed on the roof? But this never happened for me and I can't access the van.

Is there any way to get access to the van? And if not, is it critical to progressing the game or does it just make getting around easier?

The van is....helpful to traversing around quicker but honestly i havent used it at all very much. The map isnt enormous and can easily be traversed on foot in decent time and if your a lootaholic theres always something to loot that you go past so atleast you dont have to get in and out of the van constantly. But its fine without it, to me anyways

Just to follow up with this, completing the mission with the Lighthouse and the spider bunker and Giul will have Damir plop the van outside at the end of the mission and it will be unlocked and able to be driven.

Hope this helps anyone else who might encounter this bug, although I'd recommend just going straight to the outpost/town to prevent it from happening in the first place.

I did not have the same problem as blaccdixk, but what was confusing for me at the point was that the markers already start pointing at the van when you do not have the key yet. You first have to open a door across from the radio and go up, there indeed there was a scripted sequence that gave me the key.

This happened to me on my 2nd playthrough. How happened is that after knocking Saul out and taking his keys... I was swamped by around a dozen or more of those mutants so I ran out of ammo, instead of bolting straight to the van like the game suggests I decided to retreat back to the train to make more ammo and then come back and clear out the mutants before entering the van.
HOWEVER, the game didn't like me doing things in this order so when I got back to the base I got a new mission to get to the lighthouse and help that woman out.
And now even though I HAD the keys from the thug, I couldn't open the door to the van to drive it, the option simply doesn't exist, as if the van wasn't an interactive vehicle but is instead just piece of the scenery. :/
Since this was my 2nd playthrough I just decided to call it quits there and uninstall the game, already done everything once. Shame to have happened but oh well...

If you'd gone to the Lighthouse and completed that mission the van would've been waiting for you at the exit, ready to drive.

I assumed but the game isn't really THAT fascinating to play it through again, imo. :P
