Lost the night vision goggles after Taiga?
I thought this was temporary for this one mission, but I'm at the next chapter, have them equipped, but just can't use them. Is this normal? Do you just....lose them at some point in the game?

You lose them at the beggining of the Taiga level but you can find a new one in the very first building you enter in that same level in the basement. Don't know if after that you can get another pair.

you lose them when you lose your backpack on your scouting expedition, about the mid point of the game forest level, but there is another pair on that map you can grab right out the gate and it is worth it.

head towards the broken bridge where the bandits warn you off you can go down off the bridge drop down follow the path up to an abandon house and there are some goggles you grab.

google if you need more its been a few days since i did that bit and the details are hazy.

I'm out of Taiga, I have them equipped according to the Crafting Table; but in actual gameplay I can't equipped them.

The first screenshot just shows your upgrade for the NVG. You have to actually find a new one if you're free to move on the Taiga level.

I feel like that wouldn't make sense considering the Goggles are...sitting on the table right there.

*spoiler alert*

I only found out about losing the night vision goggles (and that there are no other times to obtain them throughout the game) as I made it to the swamp in Tiaga, maybe 3/4ths through the map. That being said, I was able to backtrack all the way and get them (skipped earlier, though I'd be able to come back later). Simply follow your path back, use rock jumping as needed, most enemies will be gone. You are able to run back up the slippery slope just before the net incident. The most trouble was had crossing the creek you zip-lined over near the beginning, but it is do-able. Use a running start to jump off the road and try to land on a semi-submerged pylon in the water on the other side. The zip-line rope will be gone, so you'll have to do the same thing to return back, use sprinting jumps and keep retrying.

Or you just go to the basement of the school in the very beginning of the level and immediately get a fresh NVG. :brownchicken:

But if you miss it you have to go back. My friend had the same problem and the backtrack is possible. If you have problem running up the slippery slope when you get into net (Its quite weird you fall back in and such) then look at the slope. Then look to your left and there will be water that's separating two areas. You won't be able to jump trough the water but if you jump far enough you will get the "drown" animation and spawn on the closest side (skipping the slope).

So if I didn't go back, I'm screwed, right? Won't even have them in the next area?

It´s been a while, but I don´t remember any place after the school. :brownchicken:

I'm so angry right now. The game doesn't give you image adjustment options and it is so hard to see 99% of anything without those NV goggles (on my TV). Like others, I got my NV taken in Tigra and assumed I'd get it back with the backpack. Obviously this isn't the case and I wasn't aware of the night vision goggles waiting at the beginning of the level.

I have since made it almost to the end of this chapter (the mill) and apparently the gates at the Pirate base close behind you after you take the boat past them. Now I'm stuck. I either have to play the entire chapter over from scratch, or just move on without the goggles. That really does suck.

There's one pair in the school basement, near the cobra (the building in front of the lenin statue).
A second pair can be found high up in a tree house, inside the pioneers (or whatever they are called) base.
