Bastard using .44 magnum instead of 5.45x39
IIRC both 2033 and Last Light's Bastard is using 5.45. But Exodus' Bastard is using .44 mag. Is it a buff or bug?

It's intended to be like that. Nobody knows why.

Bit dumb if you ask me. Handgun ammo is a lot harder to come by and requires more resources to craft when compared to AR ammo. So unless you're playing on easy. You might not even be able to use the bastard as much. Also you can carry much less handgun ammo than AR ammo as it is. So if you want to use the drum or box mag for the bastard. You will only be able to carry two magazines at most I believe. That's even with the upgraded ammo plate carrier.

Ammo's not too huge of an issue for the Bastard in my experience, with the exception of the Yamantau level where I went out of ammo. I used the Valve and the Bastard for the entire game pretty much and besides that one level never had any issues, but it'll be different for each person. I do like the ammo change since it gives the Bastard more damage and solidifies it into the sidearm slot to pair with things like a Valve.

My understanding was that it uses handgun ammo until you make it a assault rifle? I only used it as a handgun before I switched it out for a AK so I cant confirm.

It makes perfect sense under the rule of twos, because this way, and please stop me if this gets too deep, there's two weapons that use .44 MAG, two weapons that use 5.45x39, two weapons that use shotgun shells, two analog weapons, two throwing items, two grenade types, and of course last but not least there's definitely two weapons that use sniper... dammit.

If we're going by lore explanations...maybe the far away areas from the Metro don't have bastards chambered for 5.45? Doesn't bother me much....you get plenty of resources anyways so making more is hardly an issue. And technically it'd be a nerf really....I'd imagine 5.45 is a stronger round then a .44....but I'm no gun expert either.

And if we're going to nitpick at least let's remember that "same" guns can be chambered for different ammunition in real life.

But who cares, now I'm annoyed that the game only has one weapon that uses sniper ammo.
