Potential fix for bug where game crashes back to desktop on launch / start up
Removed the original post so that my updated steps are at the top:

After having not been able to start the game at all since launch, and then only being able to play the game with DX11, I've now been playing the game with no hitches and great FPS using DX12 and RTX and DLSS for hours. These are the steps I had to take, and -- no joke -- if I stray from these steps I found I'd have to start over at step one, or else the game doesn't work. Extremely bizarre, but again, I hope this works for someone else out there!

  1. Delete intro.webm, legal.webm, & credits.webm from the Metro installation folder
  2. Opened the game as normal through Epic Games Store and let it crash
  3. Edited my user.cfg file (at <drive_letter>:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\metro exodus\<random_string>\user.cfg, which wasn't generated prior to the new patch) and changed "r_fullscreen" to "off"
  4. Ran the game in windowed (thanks to the step above) safe mode, alt-tabbed back to the game after the BugTrab tool opens, and updated the graphics resolution to my monitor's native resolution, then exited the game through the menu
  5. Edited my user.cfg file again and changed "r_fullscreen" back to "on"
  6. Ran the game as normal (non- safe-mode) through the Epic Games Store, let the BugTrap tool do it's thing, then alt-tabbed back into the game, at which point I started a new game
  7. After playing the game (in DX11) for a few moments (and quicksaving at least once, though not sure that was needed), I exited the game through the menu
  8. Next, I ran the game with optimized settings through the Geforce Experience tool, and the BugTrap tool still triggers, but now I can alt-tab back into the game in all it's DX12/RTX/DLSS glory!
  9. Note that I lost my save game when starting through Geforce Experience vs. Epic Games Store, but luckily I hadn't made it far in DX11 mode so starting over wasn't a problem.

That doesn't matter, its in your user/saved games folder, read it.
If you bought it in the epic games store it's organized differently, and there is no folder labeled saved games. you wouldnt happen to know where i can find the equivalent?

Sorry, not sure where that file would be otherwise. I'm using Epic Store too so not sure why it's different on your end, assuming you have the latest update.

Hey Guys so I managed to fix the problem after long experiments...
Solutions for Problems:
- If the game won't start just crash to the desktop at launch remove the next intro video files called
credits.webm
intro.webm
legal.webm
- After this if the game by some reason gets stuck a the menu during startup need to switch to dx11 and you can play, if you want to use with dx12 you need to do 2 things....uninstall geforce experience and after that go to C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\Tools\NVCameraConfiguration.exe start it and in the bottom select disable.

Do this and now your game will work perfectly without any crash with dx12 enabled and all max.

My System:
Macbook Pro 15 Bootcamp + eGPU
Intel i7 7820HQ
16GB Ram
dGPU Radeon 560
eGPU Aorus Gaming Box GTX 1080
Windows 10 64bit Enterprise N 1903 build 18323
Nvidia latest driver 419.17
Hope it helps

Hi Guys,
I thank you so much; it is indeed working. The very first time, I got the game running.
Thank you
Bruno

Btw.: I am running the Epic Games version, but all that you mentioned for for Steam, is valid for Epic Games version too.

Well. He did say it was on C: to begin with. your userprofile is always on C: unless you specifically changed it in the registry,

Bumping this since I realized I didn't include the first step, as I forgotten I'd tried the delete *.webm fix before messing around in other areas. Full solution that still works for me (even better RTX/DLSS FPS with the Feb 26 update) has been added to my original post.

For whoever tried everything and anything on internet without any success: in my case, for some reason the saving files got corrupted. So there are two options to solve the issue: download the savings on internet and restart from the closest chapter or restart the whole game. PS: Metro has too many cut scenes. I wanna play it, but they don't let me with all these boring cut scenes. BORING!

So what if there is no user.cfg generated? Tried to run MEE via the EpicGames store. It don't seem to wanna update the game, and I can't find any fixes, patches or updates to manually install.I updated windows 8.1 and the GTX970 driver to the latest version. Tried all the recommended fixes: Experience overlay, Ansel, scan for corrupted files via EpicStore, disabled Spybot S&D. End of my wisdom...
