DX11 vs DX12
does this game have much of a difference between them since it supports both? (talking visual not peformance)

YES!!! Huge difference between DX12(RTX on) and DX12(RTX off)/DX11. Essential difference!!!

DX11 mode runs at a higher framerate roughly 5fps more in my experience so far but DX12 gives you slightly more consistant frame times. Run in DX11 if you don't have a RTX card.

They're both the same performance for my RTX card, but I use RTX features which required DX12. If you use RTX you'll need DX12. If not, use the benchmark to see if it makes a difference on your in-game settings, it doesn't for many.

Same performance for me on either, only problem with DX12 for me is that it crashes about once every couple hours, anytime I played over an hour the game would crash, in DX11 it doesn't.

Shame that Windows 7 doesn't support DX12. :c
There no visual nor big performance difference between either, Dx11 runs slightly faster apparently according to the benchmarks people have done and compared.

Use dx11 for no pc freezing or crashings, unless u got a rtx card and u must play on dx12.
Without raytracing its visual the same.

Windows 7 was the best Windows, I'd still use it if it was still supported by everything. Plus sadly Windows 7 is getting phased out by microsoft, January of 2020 all support for Windows 7 is done, no updates, new devices and applications will start to not support it, it's a sad day for a lot of gamers that still run Windows 7.

For me, DX12 is about 8 or so FPS faster than DX11, but I had stutters with DX12. I'm going to see if today's patch fixes the stuttering problem and report back.

I'm more interested in performance. I don't see what DX12 could offer visually over DX11 (AFAIK). Some benchmarks/vids I've seen show DX12 performing slightly better than DX11 i.e. 5-7 fps increase depending on the scene and hardware used.

When running benchmarks DX12 frame graph is really spikey. Like it's an inch thick. On dx11 it's a 1/16th of an inch thick and frames are more stable. Instead of fluctuating between 62 and 52 a 100 times a second. Haven't tried it with v-sync to see if it stables out those stutters.
That's with 2070 Super at 2080 Mhz and i7 4770k at 4.3 Ghz. Think my CPU is really slacking with the RTX turned on. Also shading rate is better to use than DLSS. I turn it to 75-80 and it looks good still, much better than DLSS and get same FPS. Around 55 fps with ultra, 1080p, RTX high, hairworks, phys-x and tessellation maxed.

1080ti here. dx12 runs 5-10fps faster than dx11 for me. I can't really tell any noticeable difference between them so I just opt for dx12 for the higher frames
