Character Writing
So, having played the previous 2 Metro games, the writing and tone seem a bit off. Does the character interaction seem a little, well, patronizing to anybody? Every character seems to state the obvious as objectively as possible. While each character has their own way of doing this, they seem to wear their emotions like a billboard. Plus, every statement made towards you is structured as "Hey Artyom, can you ..." or "Wow great job Artyom!" as if the devs feel like the audience is too impatient or inept to follow an actual conversation so they throw in a little "dog whistle" to get our attention. Also, unlike the previous, I feel like the statements made by characters are written as if they were in English and voiced in an accent rather than written by someone submersed in East European culture and then translated. It all feels so fake compared to the previous two even though those titles had much smaller budgets. Anyway, that is just my opinion so far and I'm not that far into the game yet. Otherwise, the game seems chock full of new features and I am experiencing performance issues (go figure).

Well when the script is more than twice as long as the prior 2 games combined, there's probably some dumb lines among them. Miller and Alyosha were the only ones that gave this vibe to me, the rest were really well written.

I agree with Miller yes. Maybe it will grow on me as I progress. Some characters seem like they're talking to you as a low key tutorial.

Okay gotta say, the writing and character personalities definitely picks up. The beginning had me skeptical but I can definitely say I enjoy every character they have put on the train. The Diary with information on each of them is beautifully written from Artyom's perspective. A must-read for some additional juicy lore.
