Do bullets travel straight lines?
I've missed too many shots that I could swear would go through my targets

For the most part as long as you aren't using a silencer you don't really have to accommodate for bullet drop. If you put suppressors on weapons then bullet velocity and drop are much worse. Most of the combat in this game does not take place at such extreme ranges that unsuppressed weapons will need drop compensation.

Remember that the higher your stability the less scope sway you have. And of course a high accuracy stat is good too. But even with very high accuracy weapons there tends to be a matter of inaccuracy, which is why sometimes its better to go for quick body shots as opposed to a headshot.

Also some enemies have weird hitboxes.

Weapons degradation happen as you play (Dumbest thing ever, you walking around with your weapon lowered gets it dirty) so it becomes more and more inaccurate, really dumb that you can't get a rag and wipe off the dirt/ snow/ sand to a minimum condition.

Honestly I don't think its just about weapon degradation. I've had moments where my red dot sight is right on a stationary targets head, with my weapon completely clean or just about, and I miss anyways. Mostly happens with the tikhar but still, annoying. And this happens very frequently with throwing knives too. I usually resort to throwing knives for stealth just to guarantee a silent instant kill without having to be precise but then my knife phases through them and alerts all nearby enemies. Maybe it has something to do with projectiles in general?

Happens to me all the time with mid or long range weapons no matter what weapon or mods I use with them. Some times bullets just go through mobs. Doing my second play and it's happening again. It looks like its a bug.

On unaware enemies you should be able to kill in one hit with a fully pumped Tikhar to the body, at least this was the case on hardcore for non-armored ones.

Unaware enemies take less damage to kill

Huh, I never realized this. I always aimed for the head when stealth killing with guns and just assumed a throwing knife to the body was extra strong for stealth. Now I know, thanks.

falling in water, getting spit on, falling in general, just being in the open and moving...all of this causes it to degrade.

And no, they don't travel in straight lines. I've had rounds whiz way above peoples heads, to the side, you friggin name it. Some of those shots are within 8 feet.

Wait let's get this straight.

I understand that receiving damage and getting into the water, including knee-deep, gets the weapon messed up.

But just walking around on plain ground? That makes no sense whatsoever

if you go for a head shot at longish range aim a bit high and remember practice makes perfect
most of the time for me the knifes dont work they just bounce of the backpacks from the raiders XD

The knives are the most reliable weapon in the game, and a life savior on Ranger Hardcore where ammo is really scarce.

Haven't seen them bounce off but maybe I haven't aimed for backpacks)

They don't work well on armored enemies; and if the first knife doesn't kill him he'll usually give away your position to everyone around

Knives can bounce off of armor, back strapped weapons and pans enemies carry, they only kill chest and head and will cause guards to scream if hit in the legs, unsure about the arms
