What is that 6-Digit Counter in the bottom right corner of the screen trying to tell me?

The miles or KM you've travelled (i forget, probably kM), but also signifies a checkpoint.

it just shows you how many km youve traveled.

im fairly sure it doesnt actually change while you run around in game, only from one area to the next

Two things: one, how far you've traveled from moscow. Second, if the ticker showed up in the first place, then the game is saving.
