Health "Meter" ?

So, as my character gets injured the edges of the screen turn red. Is that it? Is there not a health meter or bar?

No meter. I wait until the red goes all along the top before I use one. You can also sleep to heal it up. That sleeping trick is great for Ranger Hardcore.

Your health meter is rather misleading frankly.

Your health does not recover out of combat at all.

The red effect around the edges of the screen will fade after a bit if you've taken heavy damage, but you are still near death, even though it doesn't look like you are. So make sure you heal any time your screen hits that point, to save you a lot of frustration.
