Is anyone else seriously bothered by how Neko Arc is spelled?
It was apparently romanized originally as Neco Arc by French Bread.. but why? The C doesn't really make any sense in Japanese, does it? And since Neco obviously refers to the fact that it's a damn cat, why did it pass? I honestly expected Arcsys to change this so it actually makes sense, but no go.

ネコアルク = Neko-Aruku, by the way.

Seriously though, this has bothered me for months now.

6 years late lol, but both "Neco" and Yumiduka" have to do with different types of romanization of japanese

For Neco Arc, it's mainly just because they decided to use a "c"
Up to around the 17th century, all Japanese text with the consonant /k/ was only ever romanized as "ca/cu/ci/ce/co", but now "ka/ku/ki/ke/ko" is a lot more common, though they're both basically interchangeable and you'll sometimes find text in other japanese media, like titles on manga covers, romanized with a "c" instead of a "k"

The reason Yumiduka is spelled with a d is because when written phonetically in Hiragana, it uses the づ character, which WAS actually pronounced and romanized as "du" during the Kamakura period from the late 12th century to the mid 14th century
Overtime, its pronunciation started to merge with ず and they both came to be pronounced as "zu" during the Edo period
The most common type of romanization we'd see, Modified Hepburn, doesn't distinguish between づ and ず so they're both written as "zu", but other types of romanization like Nihon-Shiki and Wāpuro write づ as "du"

This clip explains how those character's pronunciations merged in a way that I think is easier to understand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqDnQjlK2Ac&ab_channel=Dogen

Hope that helped clear it up a little :)

Yeah I actually prefer it with a K instead of a C but it is what it is unless they can convince them to change it....With that said :mbnyufufu:

Meh. Doesn't really bother me much. Everyone pronounces it the same anyway. It's not like one romanization or the other is truly "correct".
