Those links were in violation of the forums rules & thus the original post has been updated. links are removed but google search terms have been added, first result of any of those should be the intended target. Thank you for your constructive feedback
Melty Blood manga it's not on par with it, but it's still very solid. Between Act 1 and Act 2, the full story mode of the original VN is there, so it's advisable to read it to catch up on the plot.
After you've read those two, you'll be missing only the following backstory:
- Kishima Kouma
- Len
- White Len
- (The Neco Arcs)
- Ryougi Shiki
Your choice to google them up on some wiki or go for the source material. Be warned that the source material is pretty long.
If you go the source material route, here is what you need:
- For the first 2 characters, Kagetsu Tohya VN
- For the following 2 entries, you'll have to go play some older versions of Melty Blood (I believe it's Act Cadenza, but feel free to correct me)
- For Ryougi, she's from the Kara no Kyoukai franchise. The friendliest way is probably watching the (amazing) 7 movie + epilogue(s) done by Ufotable.
Obviously, feel free to read all the VNs/LNs if you want and have time, they're well worth it.
And everyone who dont know the lore.. Ryougi Shiki is a guest character from another story(kara no Kyoukai).. put her on the bottom of your priority list for now. And I suggest reading Kara no Kyoukai Book, it has been fan translated & its completely open source so no problem posting links of it.Another note is that its not a visual novel or a manga.. its a full fledged 7 volume Novel/Book
here ya go - https://emptyboundaries.wordpress.com/2011/07/25/kara-no-kyokai-translations-2/
it says "Empty Boundaries" as its name because that is what kara no kyoukai translates to in english.(Notice that Shiki Ryougi's Last Arc is named Boundaries of Emptyness)
I may decide to put this up on the original post but I want people to focus on the story of Tsukihime for now..
And I didnt mention Kagetsu Tohya Visual novel because getting your hand on a visual novel that old, without official localization , legally, is close to impossible.
Most of us have to pirate Type-Moon products which is a damn shame...
And @Nrvnqsr .. They'll be missing backstory of Nekos???
Its noteworthy to see that all Melty Blood games except the first have Arcade Modes which all have unique storylines. But none of the stories of these later games were compiled into any other form of media & thus only way to expierience them is to play the older games which is a chore in itself thus I havent mentioned them. Same goes for kagetsu tohya, too hard to obtain.
Hey, without playing the Nekos backstory, they would be missing on the awesome Neco Chaos Black G666 :D
On a more serious note, depending on where you live and what languages you understand, it may be 100% impossible to obtain a legal copy of any tsukihime related material. Since i live in Italy, I'm lucky to have the translated physical copies of the Tsukihime and Melty Blood mangas on my shelf, but from my understanding there's no legal English release.
Obviously, it's even harder to obtain a legal copy of the VNs (Tsukihime and kagetsu Tohya alike, they're both impossible to find). It's really a shame, here's hoping that the remake will be more widespread and thet it gets an official international release (yeah, I wish, as if I don't know Type Moon
I do agree Ryougi is of secondary importance, I've put her there for the sake of completeness. I'd reccommend to watch the movies/read the LNs AFTER you know most of the Tsukihime related things.
The path which took me to this game was something REALLY convoluted, like:
- [~3 years ago] I found a video of a M.U.G.E.N. fan game in which there was a guy dressed in red shouting sentences for six-seven times before impaling his opponent with countless swords;
- on The Spriters Resource, I came into the sprites for a game called Battle Moon Wars... and found out that the red guy was actually called "Archer" and the technique was "Unlimited Blade Works";
- [~1 year ago] found on the cover of a magazine the advertisement for the UBW anime with Archer and thought "holy cow, I've already seen this guy...";
- looked for Unlimited Blade Works on the net, found Archer's chant;
- [~3 months ago] seen a pic on Facebook which parodied Archer's chant - remembered that there was an anime called UBW;
- looked for Archer's chant on the net, found scenes from the anime, learnt that UBW was a "Reality Marble";
- looked for "Reality Marble" on Type-Moon wiki, found a list of Reality Marbles and - out of curiosity - clicked on the evocative name of "Night of Wallachia - TATARI".
- been fascinated by the TATARI description, found out that the events were covered in Melty Blood;
- since I was following Arc System Works on Twitter, I got the notification that MBCC was going to be released on Steam;
- bought it :3;
- played with Wallachia and remained amazed by the quality of the game... and the sense of satisfaction when I can put together information from the storyline to understand what has happened ;)
- delved into Type-Moon wiki for additional information, resorted not to use it to try figuring out more from the game itself X'D
That's all X'D
I wonder if I am the only one which followed such a strange path to get fascinated by this game and its lore :)
Seriously, no idea where you got that from. Is your comma key broken or what?
