How do you get past the sewer wave??

First, this game is awesome. Second, I just gave up on a bit of optional story that I couldn't figure out, but I'm wondering if anybody here has. I guess I'll just spoiler text this whole thing, for safety???

So, when you climb into the well in the slums in Lower Khare, you can find the order of the spell lines carved on the sewer wall. Very useful! But after you fight a ratbear and move onwards to (presumably) the sewer exit, you get hit by a giant wave and drown. Casting FOF to produce a forcefield buys you a bit of time, but I couldn't find any course of action that actually got me past the wave.

Did anybody else manage to get past this? I know there are other ways to find the order of the spell lines, but I'm sort of dying to find out the solution.

I got past it with FOF and selecting a few options (don't remember the specific ones).

Edit: I can play up to that point fairly soon if you want the specific options required.

No kidding! I tried it a bunch of times with no luck. If you do happen by there again sometime soon I'd love to hear the specifics.

The best way to deal with the sewer wave is to use the other exit. Even if you survive the wave you still lose a lot of items

However to do that you need to have used a rope ladder in the well. What I believe you only could obtain from the Vegetable girl in the slums if you skipped the festival

Yeah, I never really actually run into the wave which is why I couldn't remember the options, you can still go to the festival, though.

Indeed but I believe that if you do not skip it first you miss that event.
