Crashing on "New Game"

I just installed this game and it's crash/freezing whenever I select "New Game". I get a popup about starting the new game with an option to "Close" but the close button does not allow for clicking on it for some reason. Only way out is to ctrl-alt-del.

Any ideas?

You just have to wait a minute or so for the game to get done loading, then it'll start working fine. Happens to me every time.
