From the same page, I've found ICE 12C mod to be very agreeable. Experienced players that run over impossible AIs with little difficulty will find this to be a breath of fresh air. AIs play better with more intelligently designed ships.
I'm agreeing that Conquer the Stars turned out to crash my hype train. I got all sorts of excited when I was reading things like "We want to do what MOO2 did." As if to say, "We know what you guys like. We're gonna do more of that", then released Civ in Space.
I think you installed on non-english version, 1.50 works only with english version.
If I remember correctly, Nexus' development initially was started as "Imperium Galactica 3", i.e. a 4X actually...
Still sad they cut it down to a tactical simulator only. :-/
