"We know exactly what the old MOO2 fans want! We're determined to give you that same gameplay!"
The game still looks nice to me.
The struggling MicroProse (Spectrum HoloByte) became a wholly owned subsidiary of Hasbro Interactive
Then they said they were sold to Infogrames Entertainment. Maybe the publisher is not the same as the owner?
I heard this story, that the reboot was basically made due to the boss of Wargaming wanting his son to experience a true MOO, but with up to date graphics. And since he and his company are super rich, he just put a team on it to do it. Compared to World Of Tanks, revenue wise, MOO is of no interest to Wargaming.
THIS adaptation is published but MastersofOrion is abandonware. The core game is free this is just a "updated" version of abandonware to work more stable on modern Operating systems adopted by GOG(good old games) and developed by SimTex to go onto steam.
You guys and your infomation.. Microprose went under a long time ago but the rights to the game went into the clouds with other abandoned software.

If you like Orion, try Masters of Magic.
If you like classics... Try ZZT or megazues
If you like Rouges.. Try ADOM, Nethack or angband
If you wanna see an original, check out NeverwinterNights (the old BBS version)
If you wanna try a classic strat.. check out Scorched Earth
If you wanna try a game i used to beta for... Try Gladiator (gladiator 95 never finished sadly)
If you basically wanna play PacificRim... then lookup OMF2097 (one must fall 2097)
If you wanna hotseat race... Check out Wackywheels and SlickNslide (wackywheels is on steam now but may be buggy)
If you try out heroes of might and magic2, "8675309" will give you a army of dragons
If you try out original Doom "idjfk" will unlock all guns and keys
If you try out original Starcraft "war aint what it used to be" removes fogofwar.
When you bought this game you bought a version of it to be stable on Windows 10/8/7.... Otherwise the original is still free abandonware whos license has expired a decade ago.
Actually it is you yourself, who is spreading misinformation.
A license can be anywhere.
If someone just makes a game based on an IP, without properly checking who the owner of that IP is, it can end very costly.
Now, have I checked where the MOO license lies? No.
But since Wargame made the last game with that title, they might have aquired it, if someone still had a claim to it.
They aquired the rights to their updated version.. The abandoned Dos Non GOG version is free.. Maybe look up abandonware as i doubt you have as Masters Of Orion2 and Might and Magic are the most popular examples of it for a reason. I basically watched it happen.
Your talk of IP ect is meaningless in this context. Its a fact. MOO1-2 are abandonware they have the rights to the modified version they created not the original. the originals which i have spread across multiple floppydiscs in a filecabinet filled with discs.
OP asked for a re-make of MOO2. Not the abandoned dos GOG version.
Atari had the rights to the Master Of Orion IP.
If you make a product with that brand (even if you just remaster an old game, it's still a new commercial prodcut), you pay them.
(Or you don't, and risk getting sued - or strike a deal with them that puts you on the save side)
The GOG version is also a private version not the original.. you still feel to misunderstand abandonware and what happens to the software.
Everything youre saying is based off your own ignorance. Atari does NOT own the rights to Masters of orion whatsoever nor have they ever had anything to do with the game.
So Wargaming now owns Master of Orion and can decide what to do with it. Have you seen any statement from them saying that these games are now abandonware? If you have, I'd sure be interested to read it too.
Yet again you (now both) fail to understand what abandonware is as you wouldnt be stating who might own it.. By it.. Its THIS particular version of Masters Of Orion2 is theirs not the old.
Maybe research Fairuse, abandonware, orphanware.... The original non-updated versions of Moo 1-2 are abandonware distributed under the Fair use act through archival websites like underdogs ect... GOG is NOT the same as they update and modify the games before distribution in many cases for sale.
I doubt you guys went into paralegal and buisness classes ( i have) as obviously youd research the correct stuff. Atari and Wargaming has Zero effect on original Moo 1-2 aside their new updated versions.
Esspecially in this particular case as Masters of Orion has been floating around unimpeeded for pretty much decades now. Theyd never even have a chance to win a copyright case by any downloader or distributor handing out the original for free EVEN if they displayed any paperwork in regards to it they can find. ^^^ This is a matter of where time, history, lack of support and a mound against them has virtually made the original Dos games public domain.
As if you look it up theres alot of sites and people that seem to get it to the point they distribute it safely unlike you guys who cant seem to understand how or what is even going on.
Im not gonna be a historian to a bunch of kids who would knows this already if they were playing games from this time period in the 90s first hand. As its not that theres too much of a knowledge gap for me to be bridging as im not your wiki.
