Any modern games as similar to this? Or as good?
Im bored off my ass and MOO2 is my all time favorite. I didnt really like the new MOO that came out at all. Any recent 4x games out that are worth playing?

I beat deadlock. I cannot get into any of the endless games. I've tried so hard but something just bounces me off every 4x they make.

Maybe sword of the stars will make a come back one day.

Have you tried ES2?
Because I agree with you on ES1. When I played it I wanted to love it but simply couldn't get into it as a game, but when I played ES2 I absolutely loved it and found it to be the game I wished ES1 was.

So I'd say ES2 is still worth a try if you haven't already.

You might like Starpoint Gemini Warlords, it's very good. Has territory to conquer, space battles and an rpg element. Stardrive 2 is similar to MOO in a lot of ways too, good tech tree development/space combat.

There's also a great modding community for Sword of the Stars, specifically the "B a s t a r d" SotS mod is excellent.

I can recommend at least a look on these:

1. Stars in Shadow: Clearly has Moo2 as direct inspiration. One major thing is that there aren't as many races, but they hav all attached a radically differnt gameplay (both ecomony and ship-buildingwise) All main parts are there like ship-design and Moo2-styled space combat, though somee things like planet diversity, specials and managment are greatly simplified (not a vast list of buildings to pick from, instead more like Moo3 setting of a development fonus here). You also have to live with the comic style (I can, though I prefer the more serious approach) and the fact that development (currently some diplo issues need resolvement) is still in process - but that's in fact positive, as it might got even better in future.

2. Horizon: That one has gotten fairly mediocre ratings at the start, but the issues got patched out over time. Personally it's in fact my choice, if you want to get something modern close to Moo2 in all parts. It starts from the visuals - already the layout of the game reminds you of Moo2. Some of the races are similar to Moo2 ones, just having a different name. The way the research tree is organized (research fields, breakthroughs, refining of researched techs), too. You get ship (and starbase) customization, turns-based combat including boarding operations. The way planets are administrated is similar and less simplified then in SiS - you don't have the plenthora of single buildings of Moo2, but can upgrade the facilities in agriculture/industry/research... multiple times,a s long as you don't run out of space. So what stops it from being a complete Moo2-killer? Hard to say. Featurewise the only thing I'm really missing is espionage (you could name space monsters and leaders as well) and the diplomatic interaction with the AIs sometimes appear to be quite unpredictable and erratic (which eats a bit from immersion and atmosphere) . You even have a kind of choise to edit your race or add ES2-like story/quests to the game. Since no more development/content are happening, you can get this every week very cheap in steam sales.

EDIT: Removed opinion on ES2, as the OP already stated he doesn't liked it.

I second Endless Space 2 - It's far deeper than ES1. I also really liked Stellaris, but some out there really hate it so ymmv. Stars in Shadow is in the same ballpark but it just didn't grab me.
