is PS3 version sprites much better to get?
i played first on the previous chapter with the updated version of them, idk much about the ps3 ones but it seems they added a lot more in there than the previous 2 sprites which felt i missed out.

so i'm wondering what's the best sprites to play with. if it makes the experience better or not

and also why did the updated (steam version) ones never added the extra art that was in the ps3? plus no voices either, was there a problem or is it meant to play silent?

They are not characters' names. They are titles, just like the title of the arc this forum is for, "Watanagashi". Here's a list of the titles for the original story arcs (I'm putting "-hen" on, since that should be part of them) and their meanings:
  1. Onikakushi-hen: Demoned Away arc* (or Abducted by a Demon arc, or some such)
  2. Watanagashi-hen: Cotton Drifting (or, as they reveal in the arc itself, alternatively, Organ Drifting) arc
  3. Tatarigoroshi-hen: Curse Killing arc
  4. Himatsubushi-hen: Time Killing arc
  5. Meakashi-hen: Eye Opening arc
  6. Tsumihoroboshi-hen: Atonement arc
  7. Minagoroshi-hen: Massacre arc
  8. Matsuribayashi-hen: Festival Accompanying** arc
* "Hen" actually literally means "volume", as of a book. MangaGamer confusingly translated it as "chapter", even though each one is divided into "chapters".
** "Hayashi" refers to musical accompaniment.

I could list the meanings of the others, but I think that's enough for now.

anyway this seems more complex than i thought i didnt think it was this rich the stories
I think the nature of this naturally invites exploration of alternative scenarios. Plus, Ryukishi07 (the author) explicitly invited it, as well as writing some himself.

at least recommend overall the best mod to use, if not multiple a the time, either if they are PS2 or PS3.
The only one I'm aware of is 07th-mod[07th-mod.com]. Just be aware that you get more than just different sprites. Most of the presentation is significantly altered. There are options that allow you to revert certain aspects, like changing the text back to NVL mode (full-screen), muting the voices, turning off lip sync, etc. Be sure to read the instructions; they are very helpful, since there are quite a number of keystroke commands.

or it would rather be better off just going with the originals.
It's a matter of preference, really. Just so you know, by default you don't see the original sprites; you see the Steam replacements. If you want to see the originals, you have to specifically select them, either by changing the setting in the config menu, or by pressing "P" while in the scenario.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Ryukishi07's sprites. I like either Alchemist's version or the Steam version (although some of the latter look a little odd, in my opinion).

First of all, it's not just sprites. 07th-mod adds a few things from the PS3 port (Sui) by Alchemist, most of which simply didn't exist in the original, including:
  • Professionally drawn character art and backgrounds. The original sprites (which you can see in the un-modded Steam version by changing it in the config menu, or by pressing "P") were drawn by the author himself and are a little rough. The Steam version has had its own new sprites (but not backgrounds) drawn.
  • Lots of event CGs. The original is almost entirely sprites on backgrounds, with very few exceptions, and the Steam version does not change that.
  • The voices from the PS2/3 releases, performed by the same cast as the anime.
  • Use of ADV mode (i.e. text appears in a box at the bottom, instead of covering the screen).
  • OP movies.

One thing 07th-mod does not include is the music that was composed for the PS2/3 releases.

and also why did the updated ones never added the extra art that was in the ps3? plus no voices either, was there a problem or is it meant to play silent?
By "the updated ones", do you mean the Steam version? If so, understand that MangaGamer does not have a license to Alchemist's work. I don't know if they tried to acquire one. In any case, it's not part of the original work. The only substantial thing they changed is the character art.

i see, and yeah i meant the updated ones. so if any of the PS3 are not from the original version, would that be considered technically filler?

Sorry, but that phrase is ambiguous in this context. Some of the releases include the original version from 07th Expansion, Alchemist's PS2 port (Matsuri), MangaGamer's first English translation releases, Alchemist's PS3 port (Sui), Hou (a package of several things plus some new stuff), and MangaGamer's new translation release for Steam (the topic of this forum) that is based on Hou but ported to a custom engine with new art. You probably don't mean the first of those, but what about the others?

(The above is far from an exhaustive list, but are the most relevant here.)

so if any of the PS3 are not from the original version
Huh? "Any of the PS3"? Do you mean sprites? Arcs? Or what?

and by PS3 i meant only 1 vesrion, which i thought there was only 1 version since theres a mod on pc for it. but it seems a too complicated to answer

There's only one PS3 version. But yeah, things are rather complicated. Here is a chart the people in 07th-mod made[07th-mod.com] that shows how all of the PC and console arcs relate to each other.

oh there's even a separate arcs to the original games (if i read it right the chart) the names are confusing me a bit, im guessing they are characters. anyway this seems more complex than i thought i didnt think it was this rich the stories, well im only looking for chapter 2 mods or chapter 1 even for now, since i just started.

but in conclusion, if you can, in your opinion, at least recommend overall the best mod to use, if not multiple a the time, either if they are PS2 or PS3.

Oh, oops. Forgot to finish that sentence: as well as writing some himself.
