Serious Sam 3: BFE
SOLVED: Sound doesn't work when playing SS3
Whenever I play Serious Sam 3 recently an error pops up stating the following:

"You do not have an up to date version of the XAudio2 libraries, which are a part of DirectX, Press OK to update the DirectX, or Cancel to continue. If you continue without updating, the game will have no sound, or may have problems with stability, performance or sound quality."

If I hit Cancel the game loads, but no sound. If I hit OK, and have directx install the libraries it says I already have a newer version and does nothing.

How I solved it in the past was by doing the following:

1. Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Serious Sam 3\Redist\DirectX
2. Then delete: DXSETUP.exe and Feb2010_X3DAudio_x86.cab
3. Then verify integrity of game cache on Steam.

But this no longer works. Any suggestions on what I should do? This game worked in the past on my computer. I don't know if this is a problem from an update or not since the last time I played without problems was months ago.

UPDATE: I now delete the DXSETUP.exe, Feb2010_X3DAudio_x86.cab, and Jun2010_XAudio_x86 files and then verify cache. This seems to fetch the libraries it is missing.

So it works now?

I still have to delete those files and verify content everytime I want to play. I still haven't determined why those libraries disapear after each time I play. I removed all steam workshop items I subscribed to and it still continues.

I did recently install Norton-Antivirus. Would you know how I could tell if it is quarantining them? When I get back from work I will post the log files. Thank you both for responding to these posts. It is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the delay. After playing around with Norton, it turns out it was the combination of a mod in steam workshop and Norton. The mod corrupted these libraries and then norton would quaranteen them. When I erased all instances of the mod and followed the above procedure, Norton no longer would quaranteen those libraries. I could finally play the game with no issues at all. I did go back to the workshop page of the mod and they had an update stating there was the possiblity of sound for the game being broken. It seems that one of their updates may have harmed the library files. Thanks again for both of your responses and again sorry for the delay in answering your questions. Thank you for your time!

Yeah I just bought the game and had the same problem. Turns out it was an add-on for Garry's Mod (a completely different game) that was causing the problem. So if anyone runs into this problem in future try unsubscribing to all your add-ons for other games.
