Generic Xbox 360 Controller Issues

When launching the game (both through Big Picture Mode and the normal Steam desktop interface) my controllers work within Steam, Windows, and Big Picture mode. But, when I start a local multiplayer game, and I click (the controllers don't even work in the menus) "controller" under player 2, it gives me the prompt "press a button to bind" and no button on either controller works, I have to use the mouse to cancel. Any help, please? I'd love to play this game couch co-op with friends, it's f***in' incredible! I'm SERIOUS about it!

Could you please send over your log file? It's located in the game installation folder.

Also, which controller are you using? The Microsoft one?

Does the controller work in singleplayer?

You can try verifying game files, just in case there's something corrupt. But this is definitely very odd.

If you go to Steam controller settings, what boxes do you have checked?

YAY! After validating the local files, I was able to get single player controller to work and then tested two player with controllers, and it worked as well! Thank you so much! Looks like everything is working now! I'll definitely come back and let you know if I encounter any other quirks!
