Any Console Commands or Methods to Change the Weapon FOV in the Early Serious Engine Games?
First off, sorry if this is not the right place to ask for it, but what's the console command to change the weapon FOV (not the area FOV) in Serious Engine games? I want to play Carnivores: Cityscape and other older Serious Engine games, I tried the /plr_fFOV=120 console command but it didn't change the weapon FOV, it only changed the area FOV and doesn't make the weapon more visible, I saw screenshots on the net that are seemingly from 4:3 monitors and not 16:9 monitors, the weapon is much more visible in those screenshots than what I'm getting on my 16:9 monitor because the game is seemingly Vert- and not Hor+

This is an example of weapon FOV that I assume is from a 4:3 monitor:

While I'm getting a weapon FOV exactly like this video on my 16:9 monitor:

You can see from the examples above that 4:3 has better weapon FOV than 16:9.

I've tried this command for SS:TFE too but it just resulted in the same thing, the weapon FOV did not increase. I've searched everywhere for Serious Engine weapon FOV console command but sadly to no avail. If there are no console commands to change the weapon FOV, are there at least any third-party tools and mods to change the weapon FOV?

There are no commands, in SS you either edit the viewmodels or use a patch if you want more, as for the game FOV, by default the behavior is Vert-, to make it Hor+ you need to increase the FOV (90 4:3 -> 106.26 16:9). However when it comes to viewmodels, they should be switching to their 4:3 variant if you run fullscreen, at least I remember it works like that in SS.

Hello! Thanks for the reply. How do I edit the viewmodels or what patch that I should use (please write both solutions as I'm really curious about them).

I don't know much about the modding part (where the files are located and how to change them), but about the patch it's called Sam Classic Patch and it's on github, here[github.com].

Thank you for this mod! From what I tried, the mod can restore the original weapon FOV as if it was being played on a 4:3 monitor (though the weapon FOV can't be increased further), and sadly the mod does not work with Carnivores: Cityscape (I tried replacing the files and renaming the game's Main.exe to SeriousSam.exe and while it can surprisingly still launch and get in-game, but sadly it still didn't work when I replaced further files included in the mod). And from what I'm guessing, the only way to play Carnivores: Cityscape with its original FOV currently is to play it on a real 4:3 monitor, which sadly 4:3 monitors are a thing of the past.

Nonetheless, thank you for this very good mod.

Well yeah don't expect it to run on other Serious Engine games, I think they are all using 1.50 version of the engine even, so totally a no go. About the weapon FOV, you can change it actually with new command wpn_fViewFOV in the mod.

Hi everyone! Nevermind, the weapon FOV in Carnivores: Cityscape was lowered because I modified the following lines in the PersistentSymbols.ini file in the Scripts folder of the game:

From the 4:3 resolution:

persistent extern INDEX sam_iScreenSizeI=(INDEX)2048;
persistent extern INDEX sam_iScreenSizeJ=(INDEX)1536;

To the 16:9 resolution:

persistent extern INDEX sam_iScreenSizeI=(INDEX)3840;
persistent extern INDEX sam_iScreenSizeJ=(INDEX)2160;

When I selected the game's pre-defined 4:3 resolutions like 2048x1536 (which is still an acceptable and good resolution even by today's standards since it's equivalent to the 16:9 2560x1440), the weapon FOV was just like the screenshot I posted above.

Thank you guys nonetheless for trying to help me.
