Huge frame drops

I have just bought SS:TFE on Steam. I have core i5 6500 + RX 480 4GB + 8 GB RAM. I have set the graphics settings to quality, and resolution to Full HD. Despite running usually at decent framerates, the game has huge drops to 20s. E.g. in the first tunnel you're entering or near the first swimming pool you encounter. I tried following some guide ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/41050/discussions/0/1480982971170965234/ ), but I was unable to change the in-game VSync setting ( I couldn't change it from Custom ). Despite following the rest of the tips, I still got framerate drops in aforementioned areas. How could I fix it?

Check the following values in VIDEO in-game settings:
1) GRAPHICS API -> OpenGL (to prevent huge fps drops and disable Vsync)
2) FULL SCREEN -> No (to unlock refresh rate of your display if needed)

Can you give me a technical explanation why the fullscreen mode has so many issues? Vsync/GSYNC nothing works. Huge FPS drops. In windowed mode its perfect! 144FPS with GSYNC and no lag at all. The problem is, I don't like playing in windowed mode.

To remove borders of the window you can try this solution:

Today is much easier to play Serious Sam Classics: Revolution (https://store.steampowered.com/app/227780) than original encounters, because it is full of useful parameters that you can tweak and a bunch of optimizations for modern PC (e. g. more constant framerate and less input lag).

Excuse me, but what the ... ? How? Why? I didn't even know that this version exists? What is that and why can I play the original entcounters there :D A dream come true! Perfect graphics and stuff omg...
