I have this problem too. LG M-Disc Blu Ray Drive, though it reads and writes CD (it installed the game fine) and DVD just fine. Any fix for this error?

Are either of you running Windows 10 by chance?

Yes, I am.

The CD verssion contains SafeDisc DRM. Windows 10 does not support SafeDisc due to the fact that it opend the door for viruses to infect your PC's master boot record during installation. Windows 10 will install only the bits on the disc that SafeDisc has not been applied to, namely the CD check. Anyway, sorry for the long time between the responses, been busy with personal matters IRL.

Which CDROM version is that exactly? We never built in SafeDisc for TFE classic, but I think some regional publisher might have added it post-fact.

That's really useful info, Spoopy Kitteh. Don't worry about the replies, we all have stuff to attend to.

In reply to AlenL the version I have is the DVD-case (non big box) Take2interactive version in the UK. It would have been bought about 15 years ago from some UK street retailer. This version comes with the Serious Editor/Modeller, I don't know if all physical versions came with that.

My guess is the Take2 Interactive version released in the UK.

My guess is that explorenate either has one of those discs, or installed it twice. His situation may or may not have to do with DRM, but if it doesn't, it could mena that the game was insatllaed twice on the PC he is using...one for the Digital versionon Steam, one from the DVD. I had this issue with both Quake 4 and FEAR when I first bought them on Steam.

If it is DRM being blocked by Windows, it might be a good idea to release a version 1.5a version that comes with a special feature to be able to install the game via a setup installer stored on the disk much like the way one would be for the Rogue Squadron 3D CDROM[github.com].

Anyway, keep up the good work AlenL and crew :steamhappy:

To be clear, I haven't got the game installed twice. I have not bought the game on the Steam store. I have it on CD-ROM and a digital Xbox 360 HD version, which is mostly unrelated to this discussion.

That is in deed a weird error. Is the disc required to be in your PC while it runs?

If there was more than one optical disc drive or virtual optical disc image mounted during install, the installation might have confused the two. You might have to mess about with the registry using RegEdit to change it.

Devs? What do you think?

Uh, just get the game on Steam? It's pretty much the best choice at this point, but hey, at least you got a physical copy!
